A queen will do a lot for her subjects, even give up her own child if it meant giving them a better life, despite the obvious pain that causes for the children in question.
That is a pain Twilight Sparkle never felt, as she grew up never knowing that her loving family had adopted her. And while those connections remain, as secrets become revealed, Twilight cannot help but wonder about what never was, as she attempts to reconnect with a family she never knew she had. Even if that means admitting that she, herself, is a monster.

I never have commented before, but this story is the first that seems promising enough for me to do so, even more than your other masterpieces.
I do wonder, could you possibly tell us what relation sombra has to the Umbra in this storty. Is he Twilights brother, a solider for the umbra army, or a umbra that is working completely independently.
Given how you managed to make sombra redemption believable and satisfying, where the writer of Siege of the Crystal empire failed, I am confident in your ability to make the umbra an interesting and well thought out-morally gray faction, instead of the army of magic orcs we got in that story. Your depiction of Rabia is quite interesting so far. She seems to be a loving mother who nonetheless gives up the ability to raise her heir herself in order to secure a better future for her daughter and the her people. She also seems to be implied to be very powerful due to giving birth to, the strongest magic user in history when it comes to sheer potential, seemingly creating a disguise for her daughter that fooled princess celesta for years(because if celesta knew twilight was an umbra it would make her an idiot for sending her to to find an artifact that could instar kill her), and being able to(in the comics at least)l, boss sombre around. I am looking forward to knowing more about her history and personality.
I do hope the umbra keep a level of ambigous morality that the Cyrsalisys didn't in Chang. Thought the umbra seem to only do what they do(enslavemnet, and torture), becuase of a deisre to survive, but their actions still lead to the empires citizens being tortured and its people put into a 1000 year stasis. I wish that cadnece wouldn't be villified for not being gung-ho about have tea with the netity that orchatrted the torturing of her subjects and her and shinings near death.

I would say that Twi being an umbra would be harder on her , than being a changelings as at least the changelings didn't committee crimes against equestria that would make hitter blush, and are still relatively mortal, compared to the eldritch umbra, as well as the fact umbra feed off of hate and changelings love.
Cadence and shining are going to have a hearthattak. First they would learn that twilight is adopted. Then they would learn that twily is some sort of shadow deamon. Finnaly they would learn there exists an entire army of thses sadow deamon,. and they have a queen who is much stronger than even sombrsa.

Could I possible use the premise of twilight being an umbrum princess for my own fanfic called "Heir to the the dark empire"(the unpublished acesscode is 666), how ever I interted to make mine very diffrent from yours, an besides our stories having a similar premise, I very much doubt mine will look anything like yours. My story is going to spend at least two chapers detailing twilights expedition to the crystal empire and will have a far slower pace. Furthermore it will be not very comdic, and more like a dark drama. Finally, I will worldbuild my own umbra and try to make them unquire from other creaters of shadow.( I will give you some credit thought aswell)

This is an interesting idea. Given how this inspired by 'Change' I suppect this story will humanize Sombra. Or at the least, make him relatable.
Hopefully this isn't a dead story. Change was a fun story, this will be too.
