Forget not that I am a derp.

E

You know the story: The sirens rampaged across the land, sowing havoc until Star Swirl the Bearded banished them to a magicless backwater of a universe full of naked apes.

The problem with historical narratives, as Clover the Clever can attest, is that the reality is rarely so cut and dry.

Technically part of the Oversaturated World, though no knowledge of it is required.

Thanks to my beta readers Daedelus Aegle, Masterweaver, and themaskedferret.

This makes me cheerful to an unreasonable degree :pinkiehappy:

Thanks for letting me preread: it's gotten even better now

Of course they swear to Dark Depths. Actually, I could have sworn either you or Aegle made that reference before.

Anyway, great work.

Clearly, Adagio is a genius siren. Thankfully, she's still not nearly as clever as she thinks. (It's easy to overestimate your brainpower when everyone you deal with is either a magically addled pony, or Sonata and Aria...)

As for Starswirl, well, he's a wizard, and we all know how their sense of right and wrong is...

And this was really really good.
Love the explanation for the mirror.

I haven't managed to sit down and tackle Oversaturated yet, I want to read it all in one go. I've just managed to read some of the smaller spin off stories, though. I think this one is a tremendously well done piece of world building. Now, despite the difficulty in doing so, I really want to make the time to read the parent story...

Awesome! :pinkiehappy:

Excellent story, its nice to see that new Starswirl tag put to use as well as a nice explanation for that 30 moon time limit. Interesting to start with an Adagio POV and all that ego, but she was definitely still very dangerous, good thing she was probably the only one to try that combined siren power.

Fun to see it span so much time, I just always find ancient Equestria with Star Swirl and Clover fascinating.

Well, good author, you made me LOL. Capital job!
Now I just have to figure out what time period the Sirens were dumped into. Assuming EQG has a history roughly analogous to Earth (only with pastel skin and presumably more attempts to befriend our various dictators), then the Sirens would have arrived sometime between 500-1000AD, so we're probably looking at Attila's invasion of Europe, given that by 800 Charlemagne had started rebuilding Europe and from 600 on Islam was unifying the Middle East (rather than the societal collapse Star Swirl mentioned). Unless they landed in the Far East, the history of which I know very little.
Or maybe the author was just making a joke and I'm over thinking things. Either way, it was a good read.

I'm somewhat inclined to say that Starswirl may have freed them, but they had no idea on how to handle themselves. It is a price, and often times these sort of things happen.

So in the end is Starswirl the villain? Or did he simply allowed for the inevitable to happen?

ON the other hand I know you where angry at my crap. I may have improved since then, but I'm still mad.

Starswirl the Bearded and the Case of the Toxic Spell Dump. (Channeling my inner Turtledove, which is a perfectly good pony name)

Well, that's a thumbs up from me.

You, sir, are close to stumbling on one of the planned secrets of the Oversaturated World. Or at least, I think it's a planned secret. I've talked to FomE about it. It may be that he's forgotten? Oh well, I might address it. I might not.

You mean the thing with the guy at the place? No, I definitely remember that discussion. I've even alluded to it in another OW story.

peaked out.

A nice little story. It's interesting to see Star Swirl not be met with shining gratitude and accolades everywhere he goes.

This certainly was in entertaining little story.

I like the idea of the sirens forming some sort of proto-"friendship" against their natural instincts. I would love to see this further explored.

This tale fleshes out the backstory of Starswirl and the Sirens to a satisfying degree, and also gives a way to wave away the disappointing backstory given in the comics.

Headcanon accepted.

7884299 Or we could just accept the fact that the writers of even the best out of the EqG movies didn't think to take that little fact of the relative time periods into account.

So thanks to Clover history remembers Starswirl as the inventor of beatboxing.

Headcanon accepted.

Also, nice Hitchhiker's reference with the Somepony Else's Problem field.

Great story!

Then she remembered just what Star Swirl was using a glass cutter on and felt herself blush.

What was that part implying?

Greta story lore. Though one must wonder what is Star swirl regreting?

I like this backstory. Good Star Swirl, good Clover, good sirens, good explanation for the mirror, and I enjoy the off-handed retcon of the official comics version of this story. The first official comics version of it, that is.
