Really, the one obstacle to a romance being viable in the first place is that Applebloom pushing him into it. If she wasn't, well, manipulating him into taking her and publically staking her claim on someone who didn't want it she would be a good candidate for a relationship given they're already friends. Supposedly.
Plot wise what the premise needs is for either Anon to put his foot down and tell her no, or for Applebloom to realize he isn't happy or willing and change her ways. Possibly both. After that, there would be planty of room to begin developing an actual relationship.
