Nothing is more intense at Crystal Prep Academy than exam week. The tests are insane, the competition more so, and the Shadowbolts are the most serious competitors of all. A little thing like the newly discovered magic of friendship is certainly not going to change that. But Twilight has to face her most terrifying challenge to date...an archery test!

Man, this is absolutely fun, and a very nice way to wrap up the SciTwi-stays-in-CPA original ending of the movie. The characters still keeps some of their arrogant side, but had mellowed a bit.. Altough a bit more sass to all the parties wouldnt hurt... Haha. I like the way that Lemon Zest is actually a pseudo twilight in how she's excelling in many studies, but doesnt seemed that bothered when studying, as shes just listen to the music and do her thing

Also, maybe when jumping through scenes you can put some symbols like *** or --- just to let the closing of the scenes and the start of the next one more clearly. I had some time figuring out why the characters suddenly talks about different things before finding out it was a different scenes altogether. Nothing a little edit wouldnt fix

7584737 Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I was never a huge fan of the fanon interpretation of Lemon Zest being something of an airhead, personally. I mean, she's explicitly one of Crystal Prep's top twelve students, and she comes in the top six in the academic decathlon, so she's got to be pretty bright. So that's why I tried to have her come across as intelligent here.

And yeah, that's probably a clearer way to denote a scene change...still kind of getting used to this site's formatting, haha.

Thanks for reading!

I like applying the same logic to Indigo Zap, which makes her cooler than Rainbow Dash because Rainbow Dash is so anti-intellectual that she would never manage to be in the top 6 students at CPA. I also like the idea that Indigo likes chemistry as an alternate use for her goggles (in the movie, while everyone else used regularly issued goggles, she used her own).

Heck, I just like the idea that these five somewhat jerkwad-ish girls are actually much more well-rounded and multi-faceted individuals than our dear old (hu)mane 6 (minus Twi?). It's pretty fun just thinking which one of them enjoys and excels at what beyond the obvious. In my continuity Sugarcoat is good with history, Indigo, as I previously mentioned, likes chemistry, and Sour Sweet is into acting, for example.

In all fairness to RD and the rest of the Mane 6, it was a pretty close matchup in the academic decathlon. We don't exactly get a point breakdown, but the implication I got from it was that Sunset vs SciTwi was the deciding round, and that they would have even won if SciTwi hadn't totally wrecked the curve. Maybe RD was on the team primarily for the athletic part of the event, but she still had to score in the top six, and stay competitive grade-wise with the Shadowbolts...though I supposed it's always possible Pinkie Pie and Sunset carried for that section, and the other six Wondercolts just didn't score that high, or intentionally dropped their score to keep RD in for the athletic portion...sorry, head canon running wild :twilightsheepish:

But yeah, I like exploring these girls' interests and strengths too...I read a fanfic at some point where Sunny Flare was in the drama club, and I was just, like, immediately, "Perfect, yes, I love that." Sooooo...I kinda stole it, haha. And volleyball's really the only sport I enjoy, and that's only really from watching "Haikyū!!", so Indigo Zap sort of inherited that. And after that archery demonstration in The Friendship Games, I couldn't help but put Sour Sweet at the top of the archery class

You know, I kinda took Cinch's words to heart that Canterlot didn't actually pick its top 12 students for the games... Dunno why, maybe because Celestia could've called her out on a blatant lie if it was, in fact, a lie?

Yeah it's a perfect fit, I too arrived at that idea at some point in the past :rainbowlaugh: It's gonna play a big-ish part in my next story, too.

And thanks for writing! :twistnerd:

7597883 Yeah, that's absolutely fair that CHC doesn't put forward its top students necessarily. I more just meant that RD probably needed to still be competitive with the Shadowbolts in order for the academic decathlon to be as close as it appeared to be (which, again, we're not given a quantitative explanation of how close it was, but the impression I got was that the whole thing came down to that last question between SciTwi and Sunset). And she couldn't have even been the weakest link either, because we know she scores in the top six for CHC. Maybe the lesser Shadowbolts are actually significantly less accomplished that the top six?

It's not terribly important...but I do love that scene :raritystarry: It's so cool!

7597930 I don't remember if they even showed what RD did during the ACADECA....... maybe she scored high enough during stuff like shop and whatnot. :rainbowwild: But yeah, I suppose, she could also be secretly not as dumb as I think, though it's really hard to divorce her character from that image for me... :twilightblush:

7597970 Yeah, in all fairness I'm likely taking it too seriously, haha. There may have been a couple of subjects she did really well in, and that brought her overall point total up into the top two for CHS. My headcanon is that Pinkie Pie's home ec skills alone were enough to get her into the top six...that cake was pretty awesome :rainbowlaugh:

Next time, Sci-Twi should bring Spike.

7635180 Yeah, I keep meaning to get Spike into these stories, but it's sort of difficult to get him into the dialogue. I totally need to include him more, though!

Dude/Dudette, it official.... I definitely watching you...

7636509 Why thank you so much  I'm so happy you're enjoying me stories, and I hope you like what's coming out next!

And it's "dude"

Very fun, and a believable way for a place like Crystal Prep to handle grades. And yeah, I always figued Twilight wasn't treating PE as an actual class for the purposes of that song.

There is one thing I have to note: The retinas are the light-sensitive regions on the backs of the eyes. You probably meant Sour Sweet's pupils, the central holes through which light enters the eyes in the first place.

7847396 D'oh, not sure why I wrote that :facehoof: Thanks for pointing it out, it's fixed now! Thanks for reading! :pinkiehappy: Glad you enjoyed it!

First lets start with these.

“Besides, we’ll all do better if we help each other cover out weak points.” Your R took a stand and out'ed itself.

Don’t worry,

Twilight,” Sour Sweet putting an arm on her shoulder

This sounds odd to me, maybe placing 'said,' after Sour Sweet.

“Huh?” Rainbow Dash asked, grabbing a cupcake

she 'said', she asks a but further down the sentence.

Cadence shook her, smiling and rolling her eyes in amused disbelief.

shook her what? Or is she shaking Twi?

But now, all I can think about it failing, and letting everyone down,

Your T needs to contort itself into an S.

Now.

This was hilarious.
I laughed so much.
The character interaction and dialogue is so good.

Edit: Oh and what happened to Rainbow Dash at the archery field? She just vanished.

7879343 Curses, I thought I'd edited this one pretty thoroughly...this is what I get for not reading it out loud, it's way easier for your eyes to slide over mistakes if you don't, especially if it's your own writing :twilightsheepish:

I'm glad you found it funny!

Oh and what happened to Rainbow Dash at the archery field? She just vanished.

The short, boring answer is, "She stopped serving a purpose in the story." Rainbow Dash's role here was basically to act as an audience surrogate, being introduced to Crystal Prep Academy's crazy-intense study culture. Using a familiar character to introduce the reader to a less familiar surrounding. Once it got to the point where the audience no longer needed anyone for The Shadowbolts to explain things to, or to be impressed with their archery field...I just couldn't spare the space in the script for her anymore :twilightsheepish: The "in-story" explanation would just be that she didn't happen to be around for those scenes, since she doesn't actually attend Crystal Prep.

Thanks for reading! Glad you're continuing to enjoy these stories!
