SuperPinkBrony12

I'm a brony and a Pinkie Pie fan but I like all of the mane six, as well as Spike. I hope to provide some entertaining and interesting fanfics for the Brony community.

(Takes place immediately after "The Cart Before The Ponies". Proofread by Smity1038 on DeviantArt.)

The Applewood Derby has come and gone, the prizes have been awarded, and for three ponies a very painful lesson has been learned about listening to their young sisters.

However, the aftermath doesn't end with the derby. Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Applejack, each find themselves having to answer for their actions to some ponies who aren't too thrilled with the way they behaved before and during the derby.

For Rainbow Dash, Scootaloo's mother has been cautious about her daughter's idol worship of Rainbow Dash, and now she has doubts about whether Rainbow Dash is a good role model. Rainbow will have to prove she can be trusted, if she doesn't want to lose her big sister status.

For Rarity, an unexpected visit from her parents causes her to once again relive what she viewed as her greatest failure. And now her parents are worried about the example she's setting for Sweetie Belle. It'll take all of Rarity's efforts to show she can be a positive influence for her sister.

And for Applejack, Big Macintosh has been concerned about her clinging to old traditions and routinely ignoring Apple Bloom, while also trying to protect her. Reluctantly, he decides to try and talk some sense into his sister, re-opening old wounds in the process. But Applejack will have to learn to let go of the past.

Yes! Finally this Scootorphan thing is being overturned.

I hated that episode. What were the writers thinking on pushing the reset button for Rainbow, Rarity and AJ?

At first, I was kind of worried that this fic would do exactly what you were hoping it wouldn't, but after skimming through this first chapter, I can safely say that it doesn't.

I personally found the episode itself to be pretty enjoyable, and found RD, AJ, and Rarity to be pretty in character, but that doesn't mean problems wouldn't arise from their actions that the episode itself couldn't deal with due to the 22 minute limit.

Applejack's parents being dead is pretty much "Word of God" at this point

With AJ's line of "If Mom and Dad were here, they'd be so proud" in Crusaders of the Lost Mark, I'd say it's pretty much canon.

7488721 That sounds like the question most people have in their heads in regards to the colt that Derpy was riding with, and his relation to Dinky.

This really is interesting. I know that the episode had an ending to it but this was how it should have ended, with the characters actually repenting. You might wanna look at the way you write it though. I noticed that once, you referred to Dash as "the newly official Wonderbolt", even though this has no actual use in this story. If you were trying to show where in the timeline this was, you already succeeded by mentioning the Applewood Derby, so, yeah, utterly useless. There were other things in this chapter, but all in all, nice concept, though the execution could use a little work.

Again, very good chapter, and I didn't notice as many mistakes as last time, so, I really am impressed. It has been shown, though, in the show, that Rarity has set bad examples for her sister on many occasions. But I did appreciate the fact that you are acknowledging the Crusaders' part in all of this, something people might forget about when writing the aftermath of episodes like this, Mare Do Well, or Canterlot Wedding. So, again, good concept that could use a bit of work.

Pride in and of itself isn't bad, it's always good to be confident and be proud of who you are. But too much pride can blind you to your faults, making you think that you're perfect when in fact you're not.

As to this, there's another saying (though I can't really remember if it's JUST an old saying , or a Scripture from the Bible) that says "Pride is a good servant, but a terrible master".

I think that it can be applied here to ALL three of them, but yeah, really with AJ more so than with Dash or Rarity.

Very well done. You're showing a part of Applejack that is either blown up beyond control, or made practically nonexistent, in a truly wonderful manner. I am really impressed by the way you have pulled off AJ's stubborn pride. She's written like a true character, one that many AJ haters fail to see. She is written in a way that makes her believable, but not stupid. This is really good, even though there are things you could work on. So, my rating: really worth it.

Pride in and of itself isn't bad, it's always good to be confident and be proud of who you are. But too much pride can blind you to your faults, making you think that you're perfect when in fact you're not.

Good quote. A very good quote,

Applejack's parents being dead is pretty much "Word of God" at this point, but it's a fan comic (that I don't remember the name of at the moment) that the rope bridge part comes from.

It is called 'Core of the apple', a very good and tearjerking comic made by NaterRang
http://naterrang.deviantart.com/art/Core-of-the-Apple-Part-3-385058908

Actually, this wasn't half bad and that's phrase I have NEVER given fics of this type, always because they're author mouthpiece fics that have the accuser so wildly out of character half the time that you end up sympathizing more with the pony being accused then you should. But here, you kept everypony in character and explored both sides of the issues raised in every chapter and treated them with respect. Or to put my summary of the fic in a shorter way...

Saw this in group. Will check it out later and let you know how it is:twilightsmile:

:ajsmug: We never did get to see her fillyhood carting experiences like we did the other two.

Like it or not, :unsuresweetie: has inherited more than just her big sister's interest in fashion and design; she's also inherited some of her strongest character flaws. (Don't believe me? Go look at For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils.) And :raritydespair: is seeing them all replayed to her in glorious widescreen Technicolor. Not an appetizing thought, especially when one stops to consider the family track record on cooking.

I'm also thinking :raritycry: was less upset about the second-place ribbon itself than about which cart got the first-place ribbon.

In order for Rainbow Dash to work successfully with Apple Bloom, another factor had to be considered: Apple Bloom isn’t a Pegasus and thus wouldn’t be able to survive in Cloudsdale without a hot-air balloon. If, on the other hand, Starlight Glimmer’s and Rarity’s respective levitating activity is anything to go by, Sweetie Belle might have a shot at lasting up there a few hours.

Did Cheerilee dress up as a cheerleader just to get notice from a certain red stallion?

7490123 Maybe, or maybe the race officials are really cheap and didn't want to pay extra money for somepony besides the event organizer and MC to be the cheerleader.

Finally got around to it. I must say, this was interesting. I can see why it is well liked:twilightsheepish:

Well this chapter seemed okay. I'm pretty sure Rarity was just caught up in the moment if beautyfying her cart she forgot the other racers as that's what it seemed to me instead of cheating.

7499008 She seemed perfectly aware that her wings could block the other carts, and I think she even admitted to such a thing in the song. Unintentionally blocking someone else is an honest mistake, but intentionally preventing them from passing is most likely illegal (and if it isn't offically, it's probably an unwritten rule).

If she really wanted 'Fastest Cart' so badly, she could've swapped with Rainbow Dash. Heck, I'm surprised Sweetie Belle didn't try to join with me so we could both win 'Most Traditional'.

Why didn't they? What possessed them to run straight for their respective role models instead? Force of habit, perhaps?

7519573 Probably, and for all we know there might have been a rule against swapping carts. Cheerilee mentioned that the older pony the racer picks, has to race with them in the cart. It's anyone's guess whether or not they keep track of who's supposed to race with whom.

This review is brought to you by Twlights Review(if that makes any sense:facehoof:)

Ok, before I get into said review, I will say this... I have a somewhat biased opinion about the ep. However this review WILL NOT reflect biased on that so don't worry. Now that's out of the way, lets get started.

At first, I was concerned that this story would fall under the category of them being in the right(or to the effects of) but after reading the first chapter, I was proven wrong. Thank goodness:twilightsheepish:. A few things worth noting though. I noticed that you referred to RD as "the newly official Wonderbolt". It didn't have any read effect on the story and I did find it weird when read aloud but that's just me:unsuresweetie:. I can see what you were trying to do though. You tried to show where in the timeline this was. However, it was already mentioning by the Applewood Derby. So it was kind of pointless but details can go a long way witch is nice. I also like you refranced Rarity and how she has set bad examples for her sister on many occasions. Again, details go a long way my friend. Also, the same applies to AJ as well. You showed a part of her that is either blown up beyond control, or is shown to be non-exist, in a truly wonderful manner. Again, show don't tell. Also...

Pride in and of itself isn't bad, it's always good to be confident and be proud of who you are. But too much pride can blind you to your faults, making you think that you're perfect when in fact you're not.

It's a relatable quote and I love it.

With all that said and done, here comes the constrictive criticism( my least favorite part of reviewing:facehoof:)
I did notice a few mistakes in spelling and while the wring is great, there were a few part that felt unneeded or felt forced in (which in a way, makes me sound like a hypocrite after saying details go a long away). Aside that, I didn't find anything to bad so my score for this is a 8/10. Ty for your time

There this comic on devaint art, where Sweetie Bell suggest they swap sisters so every pony gets what they want.
....she got shot down hard by the other two...was a parody comic really.

With how much Rainbow Dash takes care of Scootaloo, I'm bloody surprised RD hasn't sued Scoots' family for guardianship of her yet.

MJP

is it just me or was aj OOC in that episode

i should get used to it considering theres an episode coming up in which we are led to believe that AJ was the exact opposite of herself as a kid

MJP

Just boring grown-up stuff

cute she thinks she's an adult

MJP

so this was just another "parents take over derby" episode wow now that is a new low, even for a canadian show

MJP

i can tell that you've learned your lesson, and I trust you won't make the same mistake again

she won't she's rainbow dash

This was a really great ending, I wish they did this for repentance for the episode because it would been nice to show how to forgive each other.

Thank you for this story!

I love each chapter showing different faults to the characters and learning to be forgiven by their actions. They also learn how to be a better person but also understand making these mistakes can have consequences.

I do have to say I don't think I understood if Rarity understands what cheating is... The way you wrote her response to her fult, didn't seem like she understand it but did understood that it's her parents that need to be teaching SweetieBell and not her.

7544124 Do we even know if Scootaloo does have a clear (blood) family?

7594601
She does in this story, and seriously, RD is more of a parent than they are IMHO.

Rarity: Suited for Failure.

7622356 Fun Fact: That was the original title of "Suited For Success", Hasbro rejected it because they thought the title was too negative. :twistnerd:

Great work on this chapter.

Applejack's parents being dead is pretty much "Word of God" at this point, but it's a fan comic (that I don't remember the name of at the moment) that the rope bridge part comes from

I think I found the comic you were talking about.

Sideswiping two other carts? Bad sport, Dash, bad sport.

ETA: Scootaloo needs to be talked to about that, too. Y'know, so that she's not inclined to cheat just because of a bad experience (also see the next chapter).

Anyone notice the height of the seat Sweetie Belle was in? It was above the roof of Applejack's cart! She could have been cast free of the cart in the crash and pretty badly hurt. Surprised there wasn't a mention of that.

7732428 I never noticed that until now. If I had I would've addressed it.

7732428
I actually wonder if Sweetie Belle was in the most danger or the least out of the CMC because of that. While yes, she probably should have been flung from her cart, she also would have who knows many pounds of wreckage on top of her. This is a grim thought, but that would also mean she crossed the finish line first.

Actually I can only remember one episode with the parents. They were leaving sweetie with rarity while they went on a trip. Unfortunately rarity doesn't like hanging around her sister except for when it is her idea.
