Not a good idea, that's how I ended up with 8 story shells in under a year. My advice, give yourself permission to write garbage. If you take a chapter every so often and give yourself permission to write garbage, you'll very rarely have writers block. It's difficult to do, but it really does work.
Plz don't take this as me saying, "don't write another story, work on the one you already have!" Because that's not my intent here, I just wanted to give some advice (which I should probably follow myself
).

Have a completely different meaning.

so I haven't finished this chapter yet but as I was trying to remember what had happened up til this point in the story I remembered why this story seems so familiar to me. Have you read "The Nights Favored Child" perchance?

also the amount of info his parents had on the solar soldiers warrants a little bit more than a, "It wasn't much." He was just handed the map to what I can only assume is a rather secret society of sun worshipers who no normal pony would know about and the key to get in.
btw those guards are terrible at their jobs if they let that kind of sensitive information stay in the house before detaining Shining's parents, they would've had to either know about his parents affiliation with the group long before hand(which raises the question of why did they wait so long to apprehend them?) or have found the information in the book before Shining did(which means the house got tossed and Shining's parents sucked at hiding crap), the first option would've required a search of the house(if the guard is structured in any sane way) in order to find any incriminating evidence at the scene of the arrest, and the second would've involved a search to begin with, making these guards especially likely to lose their jobs as they would've lost evidence.-
why do you keep saying, "clock-cicle" if you haven't(at least as far as I remember) used it in any other chapter? Also it should be "clock-cycle"
