7322737 Well, yeah. Especially since alicorns supposedly have earth pony strength. But one might expect the Element of Magic's magic to stay ahead of her physical strength, and not just a little bit.
Or in layman's terms: If Twilight is physically OP, she should be even more so magically, which she also demonstrates by casually reviving her human friend. It just seems like the protection spell idea doesn't occur to her, which is uncharacteristically stupid of one of the smartest ponies ever.

7322815 Not really, in the finale they fought on par with each other, so in Terms of Magic starlight really is as powerful as an alicorn. Alicorns have higher potential, but with enough(!) Training any unicorn could catch up with them. Its like in Dragonball: Between Goku, Vegeta and Gohan, Goku is the strongest, while Gohan is the weakest, even though Goku is a low class Saiyan, Vegeta is a Higher Breed, and Gohan is some sort of weird Crossbreed Mutation with incredible potential, so solely based on genetics Gohan should be the strongest, while Goku should be the weakest. But because Gohan slacks off while Goku keeps Training, the order is reversed.
Starlight wasnt Born with a high powerlevel, as she didnt make it into Celestias School as a kid, so she spent years Training (in Wastelands! Piccolo would be proud!) while Twilight didnt do any magical endurance Training, only theoretical studies, and she didnt try to increase her raw magical power either, as she already was very powerful.
On top of that, Twilight studies many types of Magic, like gravityspells, reforming spells, teleportation etc, while Starlight only focused her efforts on spells directly linked to her Goal, namely combat Magic and her limited Version of the cutiepox.
