"Finding it, though... That's not the hard part. It's letting go."

Sunshower Raindrops was not a remarkable pony. She was painfully shy and timid, even a bit of a crybaby. She had no friends and tended to blend into the background. She had long believed that she would live out the rest of her days alone and in obscurity. She never asked for much... but was having a friend really so much to ask for?

When Raindrops happens across Lightning Dust for the first time since her expulsion from the Wonderbolt Academy, she sees an opportunity to finally make a friend. She does not know Lightning very well, but she seeks to fix that by talking to her.

Little did either of them know that it would be a talk that would shape the rest of their lives.

Excellent job. These are two of the last ponies I would imagine being friends, but you made it work.

Thank you very much for the kind words. You know, I didn't realize it until after I was done writing, but this story is really just some pseudo-FlutterDash friendshipping, huh?

7216268 Now that I think about it, it could be.

Well, I hope that that revelation didn't ruin your overall opinion of my story. I really do appreciate that you enjoyed it when it has been largely overlooked thus far.

7216408 Relax, it didn't ruin it. Just thought it was a interesting comparison. Two sides of a mirror you might say.

I liked it. Sure, the start was a touch slow but that's nothing new to me, and was rewarded for sticking it out with a rather meaningful piece of fiction.

My only true critique, is about this.

Lightning dramatically swooned in response, holding a hoof to her forehead. “You speak truly!” With an exaggerated, pompous tone, she decreed, “By my power, all of Equestria shall know your awesomeness, Knight Raindrops. This I swear, and may there be mercy for those foolish enough to challenge that fact.”

It just felt out of character for Lightning. Sure, she was probably giddy from the whirlwind of emotions, but that was just a little too far out of how she was through the rest of the story to believe fully.

Aside from that though, nice work!

Oh, that was such a great story.

I really like reading stories about Lightning Dust coping with her beeing kicked out of the academy and this is definitely among my favourites. Seeing a strong character like Lightning Dust in a state of deep sadness was very intriguing to read and her becoming eventually friends with Raindrops was a great happy end that made me smile.

A shame I didn't find it earlier. :raritywink:

Hi there. I mostly lurk this website. I lurk, mainly because I don't really have much to say, or perhaps because I'm not motivated enough to say anything (kind of like a certain character in your story). However, I wanted to walk up to your bench and speak on behalf of my fellow lurkers and say that this is an amazing story. Your exploration of some serious things like failure, purpose in life, dysfunctional family – it was all well-executed. The characters you developed are ones that I think a lot of us can really empathize with.

I guess what I really want to say is – thank you. Thank you for sharing this story. :)
