Equestria has been a land of peace and harmony for a very long time. Nopony bothers to ask what was sacrificed to make that happen. They will find out soon enough...
Yep, what Icanhazmochi said. What is "the Maw"? Sounds scary as hell. You wrote of a ring tainted by a void of darkness. This story, in my opinion, is awesome because it's very intense and contain a good amount of inexplicable horror. There are new mysteries in this chapter, What is the Maw? and most importantly : Where is Twilight Sparkle and her friends now? In the preview chapter seems that Apple bloom have meet a violent end, Does other character have meet the same fate?
It seems that Rarity has met a terrible fate. I wonder if the design of her name monster was in any way Inspired by this?
Also I Understand that this story was inspired by Silent Hill but I can't help but to think of Fatal Frame 2. The Maw has a lot in common with the * and All God's Village just smak's of the veil.
Flash’s shaking only intensified, but he forced the words from his lips. “I… I don’t know, but I think it’s alive. When I saw it, I swear something looked back. There’s evil within that darkness, an evil that goes beyond our comprehension. I could just feel its power oozing over me, like I was awash in the bodily oils of a demon from an entirely different plane of existence.”
"The gate to hell is called the *. Gaze not upon the *. Eyes that glimpse the * will be blinded by the *. Speak not of the *. The mouth which utters * will be made speechless by the *. Listen not to the *. Those who heed the * are turned heartless by the *."
Ah, now I remember the Fog World and the Otherworld out of Silent Hill. It's been over a decade since I've played any games, so I've forgotten about them. So my earlier suspicions about temporal issues is confirmed in this chapter, as Flash Sentry has lived a lifetime in what has thus far been mere minutes for Cadance. I was wondering if maybe he would break a time loop in this chapter by his younger self dying instead while older Flash lived, but that didn't work. It's perhaps more terrifying to think that maybe all the ponies would have been perpetually stuck in an endless temporal loop with everything resetting back to zero point (when the Maw first broke out), but Chrysalis' action is doing something to bring an end to everything.
So the silence at least hails a transition from the Pale to the Veil, not certain about the other way around. While it's obvious the Maw is exerting the Veil dimension, I wonder if it's also responsible for the peaceful, violence-free Pale, or if it's the world or Discord's powers fighting back in some way.
He didn’t so much as look back. “Well excuse me, Princess.”
I really hope you're enjoying being back on schedule more than I am, because man is this intense!

These aren't easy days for the ponies.

I got that reference.
I dunno what to say. This has been the best chapter since Coco's for me. Such heroic tradgedy; emotion stinging hard with believability.
