    Concerning Kindness

Hello to all my followers, which is currently 235 of you guys! Man, I never thought I'd get this popular when I was starting out. Anywho, you may have noticed that it's been a while since I published the latest segment of Dusk and Dawn, or anything, for that matter. So I'll take a moment to assure you that I am, in fact, still alive, and that I have started writing the next chapter of Harmony a couple weeks ago. Yes, you read that right. I've only just started. Blame Borderlands 2. The next chapter shall be called "Two-Faced", and it'll feature Eclipse taking down and capturing Rainbow Dash with the assistance of a certain traitor. While in captivity, Rainbow becomes a victim to some of Eclipse's... probing. For science. That monster. (Gutter test: what kind of probing are you thinking of?)

While I'm making a blog post, I might as well address an issue with the last chapter that some of you have noticed: Fluttershy. Let me put it like this: at first, my best poni list went in this order: Twilight, Rainbow, Pinkie, Rarity, large gap here, Applejack, Fluttershy. The latter two, I felt were boring as characters. So Applejack is the down-to-earth farmer. Okay. Yawn. Fluttershy was even worse to me. Ooh, the little girl without a backbone in her body has moments of unexpected, extreme assertiveness and can STARE. OOOHHH! Yeah.

And then I wrote Dusk and Dawn. Suddenly, Applejack's quality of character became apparent to me. Because she's so down-to-earth, she's the perfect pony to buckle down and take charge in a crisis, which the story allowed her to do perfectly. She rather quickly rocketed up my best poni list. However, as I wrote "Savagery", no similar revelation came to for Fluttershy. She's still a boring shrinking violet with a "angry mother" switch to me. As such, I completely failed to keep her canon personality intact in Savagery, instead swapping it for a one that regularly used violence and fear to subjugate her enemies.

I'll admit, while I still find her boring, I'll spend the rest Harmony rectifying my mistake. I've planned out a few events and insights in an attempt to bring her back to her canon roots. You'll see her spending less time attacking her enemies head on and more time supporting her allies like she should be. I will not, however, apologize for giving her Beast Boy's powers. She's freaking awesome like that, especially in a fantasy world like this.

That's all for now, folks. If "Two-Faced" isn't out in a month, you have the right to whine at me all you like.

    2% signing off.

This story is a sequel to Dusk and Dawn

The Dawn Militia and Nightmare Moon's armies continue to wage war across Equestria under the eternal night. The six bearers of the Elements of Harmony–Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and Trixie–have been blessed with extraordinary powers, with which they lead the Dawn against the tyrant and her reluctant lieutenant, Eclipse.

But it's hardly easy. After all, what place does harmony have on the battlefield?

#4 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

What did I tell you? A sequel was on the way, and here it is.

Yes, those griffons do have (bad) Scottish accents. Because why not?:pinkiehappy:

In related news, I may have topped the original story in terms of "bad things happening to Twilight."

Oh it's about time! You leave it on an ending like that and it takes what?... Six months now I think since, I read the original, and you only now get around to writing it? Gah! I thought this was dead!

Whatever the case I'm going to read this and I'm going to enjoy it and then I'm going to write a comment filled with praise but at the moment its well past midnight in my part of the world and my brain needs its rest.

Also I loved the original btw.

Took a bit of hunting to find this...couldn't find it by clicking ur name to go to the profile on FimFiction and I hate hunting around on EQD...

But it was worth it :pinkiehappy:

I was NOT expecting Fluttershy to go all Animorph on the soldiers if I'm honest. :pinkiegasp: Made for a nice surprise.

And I'm loving that the gryphons are scottish  (slight bias there maybe since I'm scottish but hey what can you do? :twilightblush: )

#7 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

This isn't showing up in your Stories List, BTW. Thank Faust EqD had a direct link. :pinkiehappy:

#8 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

Lo, I have stayed up till the crack of dawn Laying down righteous blows on mine f5 key; and mine patience has been rewarded. The gods of all things fiction have granted me a boon of distilled, ambrosial, EPIC.

faved, thumbed, and thoroughly stuck in my seat for 30k words. I will wait eagerly for more!

#9 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

HOLY CRAP THERE'S MORE!!!

Oh man thanks for this, I absolutely loved the first one and my only complaint was that there wasn't more of it.

#10 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

So. 3 hours spent reading this series. its 5:30 in the morning. Worth every moment. I could imagine quite a few of those sequences, though the most adamant ones were from the first part involving the fight between Applejack, Trixie, and Eclipse, and the transformations of Flutteryshy. This series is well written and creative with the characters, and does generate a lot of interest for the world they reside in. Definitely waiting for the next installment. For now, we wait.

#13 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

Nice (or should I say "Nasty"?) flashbacks with Twilight. It's interesting to see what to took to turn a wide eyed and innocent introvert into a "Shoot the Dog" pragmatist. I can assuredly say that I fear for Luna's safety once Moony is taken out of the picture.

#14 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

very nice again!

but you do know, that you trapped yourself? after writing another chapter (or "sequel" if you want), it wouldn't be okay to not end this story. so i wish you fun writing it, and poke any of us when the next chapter is finished:pinkiehappy::trollestia:

#15 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

first a fluttershy yay a pinkie pie yes and what ever else you can think up second what is with that song at the end and finally third and most important KEEP IT UP :pinkiehappy: :pinkiehappy: :pinkiehappy: :pinkiehappy: :pinkiehappy: :pinkiehappy:

#16 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

Trixie - Element of Magic - Incredibly powerful and versatile spell caster, favors illusions, but has other abilities.

Fluttershy - Element of Kindness - Animal Control, Animal Form, the Stare, evidently needs extra mass, but can grow to Dragon size.

Applejack - Element of Honesty - Lie Detector, Incredibly tough/strong/agile, uses an arsenal of modern weapons

Now all we need is to see how Rarity, Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie turn out... god, imagine a super-powered Pinkie?!? Break the 4th wall? Hell I shattered the 4th, 5th and 6th, and only got caught up slightly in the 9th.

I assume some of the gem-works were Rarity's.

#17 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

This was fantastic as a oneshot and seeing you expand this world and story is something I really look forward to.  You have exceeded my expectations with the continuing quality of this piece.

Any idea how often you will update?

#18 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

OMG THERES A SEQUEL!?!

*sniff* :fluttercry:

its the most beautiful i have ever seen

#19 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

That ending. Oh the character building...

#20 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

Nice! It's continued! :pinkiehappy:

just one little remark, you mention Twilights arm in the last part, ponies don't have arms ;)

#21 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

You live i'm so happy you done part 2.

shame about Rusty Fields I kinda liked him he was badass

#22 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

ETA on next part. this is so good i just need more

#23 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

We have enhanced magic ability with translocation and illusion, shapeshifting, enhanced social intuition and modification of ponysona's for obedience? That powerset seems awfully familiar when taken in aggregate...

#24 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

So awesome! :rainbowkiss: When can we expect the next chapter?

#25 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

you better not wait 6 months until you get another part up.

because.

THIS IS CASH.

<3

#26 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

So awesome and dark.

Agreed. Don't make us wait for 6 months!

#27 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

It updates!:pinkiegasp:

:twilightsmile::twilightsmile::twilightsmile:

Best day ever!

#28 · 125w, 4d ago · · ·

Absolutely love that you've started working on this. The first one shot created a very vivid and believable alternative world and I'm looking forward to seeing what you can dfo with something longer.

#29 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

originally i supposed to study math today, instead i see this (then i suppose i had a minor heart attack, but that's not important); meaning i have to re-read the original (third time now all in all) and then read the sequel! done three hours later, and now it's to late to study....so worth it!:pinkiehappy:...yes i suppose i could have read it during the evening-night as im awake late anyways, but you try studying while knowing this just updated; i know i can't!

#30 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Hallelujah! That's all there is to say!

#31 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Make more.

#32 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

....I can not express in words how pleased I am.

#33 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Yay sequel! But I am wondering, when is this set in relation to Dusk and Dawn?

#34 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

This story is so brilliant, can't wait until the next chapter! :pinkiehappy:

Also, that ending :fluttercry:

#35 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

You actually continued? Finally? After so long? I am happy, and sad cause now the next update is never going to happen for a long long time then.

#36 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Oh cool, so you did continue it. I didn't know I faved the first one when I actually got an account on here (I read it on fanfiction.net).

#37 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Woot another awesome story to track. I read the first part of this so long ago, I figured that it was just going to be a one shot.

I really like seeing how the different elements have grown and learned to fight Nightmare Moon and her Royal Army. This is also a story that I find hard to guess the eventual ending. I'm guessing something like a large scale final battle where Trixie fails with the elements, then Twilight has to step in and help her, buying the elements time to finish Nightmare Moon while suffering serious injuries. Then it's the feel good ending where everyone makes up, or Twilight succumbs to her injuries. This is all in my head of course :twilightblush:

#38 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

A sequel?!

THE BEST! POSSIBLE! THING!

#39 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Gah, Flooter-shyyy. D: I'm wondering how much longer after the first story this is taking place, but I guess we'll find out eventually, lol.

The ending with Twilight singing Giggle at the Ghostie... :raritydespair: Hoping Twilight gets a narrative turn soon. A present-tense one, lol.

#40 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Sequel? Sequel.

YOU. ARE. FUCKING. AWESOME.

#41 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

"Hundred and a half soldiers" I feel sorry for the half-soldier.

Actually I feel sorry for anyone who has to face Fluttershy.

Please write more!

#42 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

Hopefully we won't have to wait another half a year for the next update :moustache:

#43 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

AW SHIT DUSK AND DAWN SEQUEL.

I said in my review that if you ever decided to continue this, I'd read it the day it came out. And damnit, I'm going to follow through with that.

#44 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

This sequel only has me wondering: Do you have any sort of plan for when you release your next chapter? I dearly hope it isn't another half year. :pinkiecrazy:

That said, I loved it. I don't know why, but grimdark has always been the most enrapturing genre of fanfiction for me. Probably because it doesn't fit at all in the Equestrian universe, but that you could probably see some of it actually happening, under the correct circumstances.

Keep on chugging along man. Please let us know when you will be releasing another chapter. Until then, I wait with bated breath.

-Daring :scootangel:

#45 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

The Royal Army has muskets, seriously demoralized soldiers and terrible tacticians. The Dawn gets bazookas, semi auto shotguns, a shape-shifter who can turn into a freaking dragon and an army of airborne highlanders. Who's the underdog again?

Seriously though, this series is epic. Make more.

#46 · 125w, 3d ago · 1 · ·

It is absolutely unfair how powerfully you write. I nearly bawled my freaking eyes out in the middle of the break room when I read Twilight trying to suppress her fears with the song, right after I felt so incredibly heartened after reading just how badass the Elements and the Dawn are.

I only just read your original one-shot and this chapter this morning when it came up on the EQD story update, but I have to say that this has surpassed Fallout Equestria as my favorite Grimdark story. I am a huge fan of villain/ captured hero protagonists, and you work it so well that I am just in awe of how wonderfully it is put together.

Post more? :fluttershysad:

#47 · 125w, 3d ago · · ·

I think the original was the first pony fic I ever read. I was shattered when it ended. I can't believe there is a sequel!

And now I feel like  douche for being the first person to write a negative comment. Scanning through the other comments here everyone is being highly positive but to be honest I merely felt disappointed by this story. :ajsleepy: Maybe I hyped it up too much in my mind before reading it but the simple truth is there was no moment in this chapter that I thought stood out.

Your discussion on Kindness seemed particularly lack luster to me, there really was no moral issue with killing those drones as far as I could tell. There's no cure, they're in pain, there's no hope for a cure so you have no choice but to end them.

I preferred Breaking Twilight on fanfiction.

Man I feel bad for writing this comment.

"Her arm still hurt.

She curled up again, cradling the open wound with her other arm as well as she could."

Ponies don't have arms...

P.S.:Need an editor?

#50 · 125w, 2d ago · · ·

>>694376

>>700092

Anything that shares the form or function of the arm can be refered to as such. Ponies use their front legs as arms enough that it's valid.

>P.S.:Need an editor?

>>697442

You forget that the Royal army has Eclipse and Nightmare Moon. The Dawn will be harshly reminded of this fact, but later. This is only the first chapter of Harmony, after all.

>>699615

It's okay, you don't have like something just because everyone else does. I didn't write this with the intent of surpassing the original–I wrote it as a continuation. I'm saving myself for the climax of the series. As for your thoughts on the drones, I'll just say 1.) Not a moral issue? Aren't you a frosty one? And 2.)  Fluttershy isn't omniscient.

>>695478

This takes place only a few months after the previous events. So will the next chapters.

>>Everyone hoping the next chapter won't take another half year.

... *cough*
