"It's bad enough you lost to that transplant from Trottingham, but imagine if you'd lost to one of those blank flanks. As a Rich pony, you must always think of your social standing. That starts here in Ponyville and reaches all over Equestria. Don't ever forget that, Diamond Tiara. Ever!"

"I thought it looked a little country."

"See how they hang on every word that I speak
My approving glance is what they all seek
I'm the creme de la creme, not just another Jane Doe
I'm the type of pony every pony should know"

Spoiled Rich and Filthy Rich attend a dinner party at Fancy Pants's new summer home in Ponyville. Set before Diamond Tiara was born.

I always viewed the Unicorn as the equivalent of "High Elves", magically inclined, and arrogant as all get out. This is the perfect illustration of that attitude convinced they are better and smarter than everyone else and only accepting members of other races(or tribes in this case) as equals if they emulate them.

I take it you really love The Great Gatsby, old sport?

6531619 Meh, I'd say this one is more Invisible Man than Great Gatsby.

I don't remember that book as well. I know he wore blg blue glasses and was part of the mob or something. And the husband of that inn keeper lady is the one who figures out he's invisible. It's been a long time since I've read that one. Might be time to get to it.

Oh, I recall the tragic end too.

I mean Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison.

6533683

Not HG Wells? Hmm... Haven't read any others...

6534783 Wait, serious question: Do you live in the US?

6535737

Yes, I'm was born in Ohio.

6535857 Oh okay, you were born in the north then. I think it's more popular in the south.

“Yes, well mud ponies do always seem to breed like parasprites,”

You think after prejudice nearly destroyed their civilization with the hate feeding ice horses, they'd have bred this out for the sheer sake of survival.

They’ll just go on to get their cutie marks in farming or hard labor and what have you.

How do they react to Hoity Toty and Photo Finish? Both Earth Ponies and both high on the 'whose who' pecking order.

I don’t think it’s fair to impose our unicornian education models on them.

That is disturbingly logical.

Trender Hoof was never truly racist, just naive.

==He proved that earth pony bankers and business owners are far less happy and have higher rates of anxiety and depression than earth ponies living on rural farms.==

Hey Applejack, these unicorns all agree with everything you've ever said, doesn't it make you feel just PEACHY?!

And Pegasi get completely left out of the conversation, along with the other pony tribes: Alicorns, Seaponies, Breezies, the Bat-Ponies, and changelings.

Well, I don't know if hatred is the right word for the sentiment here. It's pretty close, but I think prejudice is a better term. Not that the pre-Equestrian ponies weren't prejudiced, but they were much more vocal about their opinions which drew more backlash from the other tribes.

My intention here wasn't to make it seem as if the unicorns hate earth ponies per se, just that they feel superior to them.

How do they react to Hoity Toty and Photo Finish? Both Earth Ponies and both high on the 'whose who' pecking order.

I'd say they'd outwardly tolerate them but secretly talk about them behind their backs.

Or they would gush a lot about how they had to "overcome so much diversity to get to where they are now" and behave really patronizingly towards them.

Trender Hoof was never truly racist, just naive.

He also had a major case of yellow earth pony fever and with subtle hints of white pony hero complex. It's not racism in the traditional, mainstream sense but it's still problematic that he fetishizes an entire culture.

Good catch. It's kind of like how Asians, Native Americans, etc are often left out of conversations on race in the US.

He seemed more otaku than superiority complex.

6548135 Yeah, I think I mostly got white savior complex vibes from him because of the association between that trope and the noble savage archetype (which he kind of imposes on earth ponies). While he didn't really think of himself as a "unicorn who had to go in and save/civilize primitive earth ponies," his brand of racism is along the a similar branch.

He mainly just has whatever the equivalent of yellow fever is for earth ponies. He is obsessed with the stereotypes that are associated with earth ponies and likes Applejack because in his mind she is the embodiment of what an earth pony is "supposed" to be like.

I'll admit, what I found a weak point of that episode was AJ was just ticked off at Rarity doing a cliche of AJ's lifestyle, and just 'gets back at her' at doing an unwittingly much better job of a fine lady than Rarity as a farmer, and doesn't even TRY to get Rarity to see her own strengths rather than trying to imitate the appeal of others.

Very good insight into the way the upper class is thinking about "lesser ones". The dialogues sound really natural and realistic. I never talked with upper class people, but I bet that's exactly the way they talk.
I just always thought that Fleur de Lis would be nicer, but then again, Rarity is a unicorn as her, so it does fit that she has a condescending opinion of earth ponies.
Very well done. Continue to write. You have lots of talent.

Bit more focused on race than I think it would be, but I would imagine that a few incidents like this would explain Spoiled Rich's expectations of her daughter.

Clearly some unicorns are still racist.

Jokes on them, in Canterlot half the Canterlot Elite are earth ponies these days, and the mayors of all the major towns... and the wealthiest business owners... jeeze, when are they going to start lifting up unicorns?
