"It was a strange coincidence," I said.

"But it wasn't a coincidence at all."

"Why not?"

"Rarity bought that house so that Blueblood would be just across the bay."

Yes, this is Great Gatsby with ponies. Yes, Derpy is Dr. TJ Eckleberg.

I suppose this first point of mine could be good or bad, but should still be pointed out, but, at least so far, the parallels between this and Gatsby have been relatively few.

I'd also like to see more colors involved (we are talking about Fitzgerald here. Even from the get go, color is so important in TGG. Tom's windows, Daisy's clothes, etc. It'd be nice to get into overly descriptive writing, purple writing even, just like the classics. Most classics were like this to an extent.

The Invisible Man talks about The billboard's the invisible man's blue glasses a lot. It is a central part of the symbolism involved.

Anna Karenina talks about the title character's hands all the time, mentioning how slender they are.

So don't be afraid to write a little purple. especially considering the book you're writing after.

Also, I know chapters in Gatsby are relatively short, but you could stand to add more words per chapter. The events feel too rushed, even for a Gatsby crossover. I encourage you to expand all of these with some of what I talked about earlier, color details.

Anyway, good luck with the rest of the story.

Thanks for commenting, bro.

I tried to flesh out some of the things that Nick offhandedly mentioned about the events before the main story. This is kind of my interpretation of things that might have happened outside of what occurred in the book.

I tried to make the early chapters short so that the story would be easier to keep up with in the beginning at least.

I'll take your suggestions on increasing the amount of descriptors into account for later chapters.

judging by the story's name and the line

"Rarity bought that house so that Blueblood would be just across the bay."

it looks like Blueblood will play the role of daisy which intrigue me, most people would have probably made him tom Buchanan,
does this also mean that gender roles are switched?

Yep! I'm glad someone has already caught on!

6518122 Nah I was probably just the first one to comment about it.

I really like how you're having it happen in real time as opposed to how it was done in the actual books, with Nick retelling the story. It makes this feel more like it was inspired by The Great Gatsby as opposed to The Great Gatsby with all the names changed.

It's interesting having the genders reversed as well, Rarity fits the character of Gatsby far better than any other characters, especially the male characters, of the show so this makes the most sense. I like it!

not bad well written but you call blueblood her in this line

I was not well acquainted with my cousin Blueblood, only seeing her occasionally at the odd family gathering. I knew Blueblood attracted the fancy of not a small amount of mares.

The inspired vs copy of thing is kind of a toss up for me. You can pony-ize something too. Interpreting what would be the pony equivalent to the book, details, dialect, etc could be interesting too. I also agree that Rarity was the best fit for the Jay Gatsby allusion. While not a perfect fit, so many connections can be made such as:

Her crush S1 to Blueblood similar to Gatsby's obsession with Daisy

Her self made fortune and Gatsby's self made fortune

Both of their desire to be part of the upper crust and both of their failure to do so (Rarity doesn't fit in with the Canterlot crowd or Manehatten crowd as well, and for Gatsby, one can only think of the scene where he and Tom argue and, because he loses his temper, it is shown he isn't like the old money like Tom).

Not a canon connection, but you can also consider Rarity from Witchcraft is magic. She was part of a war too.

I wonder is Rarity has her own Noah Cody? Could be interesting. In the show I mean.

I could think of some others if I had a few, but this was off of cold recall.
