Congratulations to all who recognized the consequences of Whisper's little discovery! There's more work to be done
Oh crapbaskets! Either some xenophobia is starting to kick in against changelings or that specific one is just an example to others not to fuck with their town and they aren't irrational about their hatred... Who am I kidding? Rational hatred is hard to come by in the wasteland. Let's just hope it's not too late for Whisper to explain the situation. For everyone's sake.
Glad Whisper made the correct decision regarding the clutch of eggs. I only hope her statement about not being queen material is a matter of preference and not biology. Queen Whisper would be so awesome!
Oh, and Sickle with a machine gun is terrifying! I can't see this decision possibly going well.
Good chapter, as always! I love this story
Now the fun question for next time. Is it someone she knows, or one they uncovered, interesting either way for different reasons.
Whisper just can't catch a break can she
On the bright side, she can just point them toward serenity and say there are more devils there
Oh sweet pony Jesus they gave Sickle a gun.
Looks like Trotsen found out that Serenity is mingling in their affairs. Wonder if that's gonna make it easier or harder to convince them to help.
sickle with a gun is totes adorbs.
Reminds me of how some towns in the Caribbean hung pirate corpses outside town to show piracy would not be tolerated.
This could be a good thing. It means the town is already aware of the changeling threat and might be easier to convince.
The bad side is obvious, but Whisper wasn't planning to reveal herself and risk a lynching anyway.
I know you meant this as a dramatic cliffhanger, but this honestly seems like a good sign to me. Our heroes' goal is to try to convince the town that changelings are a threat, and it looks like the town is already predisposed to that idea.
I mean, sure, it's going to be really shitty for Whisper if (when?) she's exposed, and undoubtedly things will go wrong as they always do, but I'm cautiously optimistic at the moment.
Another great chapter!
They wanted to start the war and were welcomed at the open front. That's what I call luck.

Yes, but what happens when, down the line, the hatred for changelings is increased irreversibly because Whisper used xenophobia to rally the populous? How will she intergrate her hive then? This is NOT an option for her.

Holy crap you gave Sickle a gun!
Whisper isn't alone anymore!
I'm surprised Whisper and crew didn't set up a base of operations in that cryo-building. Fix some turrets and their ai, maybe jerry-rig a sentinel and set it up for the long haul. Plus then they'd have a place to keep extra stuff and what not.
Ya know.... This only leaves me wanting more right?
I just had to spend a half-hour in a mental crisis- How the hell does a pony bipod work?
I know you were going for an IAR type deal during the training session with the rifle with a drum magazine and bipod, but the gun is attached to a frame that is attached to their side.
If they lie down, it's not going to really touch the ground properly enough to deploy it due to their side being in the way, and it can't be held in their hands and then placed down in front of them because they have no hands, because horses.
How does it work, can I get a diagram or something? :)

I think it's probably safe in immediate terms meaning few are going to die from the cryo process but then she has to feed them and raise them somehow which is simply something she currently does not have the time or reasources for.

I imagine it pulls forward out of the harness a bit to fit on thier shoulder. Either that or magic static cling strikes again.
Sickle with a .50 cal? Alas, poor wasteland, we barely knew thee.
8396445
Yeah, the doom robot out front did a decent job of keeping the place clear over the years. Would make a good base, although they do have enemies that could flatten the place, so perhaps indiscretion is the smarter choice for now.
Will make for a wicked hive for Interrim Queen Whisper some day, though
8396445
True, but it would also draw attention to the place the eggs are stored. There is very little chance their using the place as an active staging ground would go unnoticed, and 'unnoticed' is exactly the defense those eggs have to rely on.
If Serenity finds them (a single spy following them home is all it would take), they are left with an all-or-nothing fight to defend the place. If they lose, the entire hive dies.
Yup. Knew it. It's the wasteland so I knew good things would be brief, even when necessary.
On the one hand, this means Trotsen has encountered changelings before and quite possibly hate them which is good for mobilising against Serenity. But on the other hand, it means they're hostile to ALL changelings.

Nothing could go wrong with this decision!
8395071
That was the primary inspiration for that sight, in fact

It's not. It was temporarily mounted to Sickle's new getup (Where yes, the bipod would be useless), but that's not how it's normally used. Her heavy machine gun is the only battle-saddle weapon they currently have, now that they unmounted the minigun (Unless you count the grenade launcher mounted to the side of the power armor that they quietly did not give to her, heh). The regular rifles are held by a bit in their mouth, with a stock that runs back to rest against their shoulder or base of the neck. It's probably not as stable a position as with a human, but it's about the best a pony could arrange. Like that, all the pony has to do to use the bipod is lie down.
I was planning to stop with this chapter to checkout my other reads then I saw no next button. It seems I would be stopped for a while.
Oh... Shit. Dead changeling is no bueno. I hope it was one of the serenity changelings, at least. They kinda deserve it.
Good news they probably know at least something about the whole Serenity threat.
Bad news Whisper's whole 'friendly changeling' thing is probably going to be a REALLY hard sell.
I imagined her eyes snapping wide open instantaneously upon hearing words, like Pinkie in Rock Solid Friendship. It was hilarious!
“Yo, we just killed a changeling.”
“Yo, there's a bunch of other changelings out there that want to kill you.”
Well that was a long binge read. Glad I did it though
Fuck no,
duck n roll
Well, the fact she's not a queen, probably...
No, but you're worse; you're universally unwanted
But, but... there's ice making machines here! If you're nice to Echo for just a bit, you could get her experimenting on turning one of these freezers into a ice cream maker! Think of the possibilities!
Ehh. She'll be back when there's some good fighting going on. Like Han Solo in the first Star Wars movie
Hint: she means "you’d make a great mom."
Well, not quite. You guys rather irresponsibly destroyed all the guards. Let's hope Echo can cobble one back together as replacement door guard.
Fuck you, Starlight! She's a real tank now!
Cranky pouty Echo is best Echo. It makes her look less robotic
No, but one look at Sickle and her new toy and any raiders would probably reconsider anyway
Uh... what? Raiders generally don't have motorwagons...
Unless it's Serenity? They could act disguised as raiders I guess.
What? It fits the bug aesthetic
Oh yay. They already know.
Remarks and corrections:
> “No, “ I said,
There's an extra space in that quoted piece.
> mount this motherfucker in it’s place!
An its/it's error!
> My only concern is whether whether the motor
Double "whether".
8407911
Unless they've heard of the Dashite Enclave guys. That comparison worked before
8458800
Glad you caught up, I'd been missing your comments! Plenty of things that made me feel pleased or made me laugh (And maybe a few groans at simple errors that I'd somehow let slip through, hehe). It's been like a fun trip back through the previous chapters! I also like seeing you picking up the details and figuring out where they're leading before it happens. You're very good at that, and it's strangely satisfying
8459168
Hehe, thanks. I'm glad I'm reading again; I've missed that, too
... I really need to avoid your stories. I think I've now gone through your entire collection within 3-4 days...
I need more.
Shit, we just can't get a break can We? Lol
Not a good start to entering a new city.
Damn you must really love to torture Whisper's mentality
Yes, technical correctness is by far the best correctness.
So, it seems the question is, is wether it's better to go in disguised to test the waters, or go in openly and hope they'll listen to someone who isn't hiding.
8394252
Imagine sicle in a tank that can self repair itself
There was something that I wanted to comment on, some epic revelation or other, and then I hit the comment section and got distracted and can't remember it any more, ohh well couldn't be that important or new praise over the story if it already disapeared.
Nitpick:
Linebreak mistake
Wow that whole scene felt very Mad Max
Now I wonder if there's a Mad Max crossover fic...
And I understand why the team couldn't thaw out the eggs, but I feel like just leaving them there was not the best idea. Sure, the place was left untouched for 200 years, but it's not really clear whether that's because it's well out of the way and nobody knows about it or because of the giant murderbot they destroyed. Without any security left, the door to the eggs is the only thing guarding them. It's tough, but Starlight said she can get through it in a couple of hours which means others can too, so I'm not convinced that's sufficient defense.
11477010
The main problem is, what other option do they have?
They can't move them. 123 eggs is a lot of space and weight, and that's not even counting the massive cryogenic freezers they're housed in. Taking them out would be BAD at this point; as she notes, they can't remotely care for that many children.
Getting new security measures would be good, but they don't really have that option available. New combat bots or turrets would be useful, but it's unlikely any of them knows where to go to get them, especially on short notice. Hired security or mercs could work, but that means letting other people know about the location, which is itself a major risk.
The only other option I can think of is Whisper or some of the others staying there to protect them, but that's basically a non-starter. It means compromising the effort against Serenity, which Whisper considers the biggest threat to her hive. It ironically makes her hive less secure.
So yeah, leaving the eggs there is a bit of a gamble... but it's kind of the best choice she's got.
11477059
Yeah, I understand that, it's a complex situation without a real solution. Still, I don't think I'd be able to sleep at night if I was in Whisper's place. I'd be too busy worrying about the eggs
I hope it doesn't happen, but I can already see the team returning and finding the door destroyed and all the eggs missing.
