Apologies for the month-long wait. Have two chapters to make up for it! And also because one is pretty small and I didn't want to leave you with just that little snippet.
Writing has been a tiny bit slow over the last two months, largely because of class taking up much of the time I'd usually spend writing. But! Today was finals, so I basically have two weeks to do whatever I want, and conveniently spaced between game releases that I won't be tempted to binge 24/7 videogames. Which means, writing!
Let me state this again: Sickle is one hell of a badass.
Yeah, that might not have been the smartest move just walking up to the stone claws, but she also beat it to death. Got hurt doing it, but she shrugs that off on a daily basis.
Also, it's nice to see how these "recordings" have been conducted all this time, and what led her to start them up in the first place. I also want to commend her relationship with Starlight so far; it seems very real to me, and just well done.
I have to say, I liked the atmosphere of the trip through the swamp. It could have used some more buildup, but the stalking stone claws was an excellent touch and built up the tension of the scenes quite well.
8038718 I was trying to figure out how the hell I managed to miss an update until I checked the dates.
Found it strange the griffon used a ladder. Claws would certainly make the task easier than with hooves, but in my experience anything with wings tend to like showing off the fact. In other words why not glide down? Perhaps they're wounded.
Or I'm over-analyzing. Another great chapter. Pair of chapters that is, double update! Looking forward to more!

You're not!
I'm guessing these folks are descended from zebra refugees. Equestria might have gotten Balefired, but if i remember the original FO:E correctly, the Zebra lands got mostly glassed in retaliation.
I know I said I was saving this chapter for later, but I couldn't help myself! Such a good chapter.
If this ever happens I will be so happy for her. After all the changeling mishaps Whisper has had, she deserves something good to happen. I can just imagine all the hugs and tears as she's reunited with members of her hive... One can dream, right?
Oh, and Sickle is a badass as usual. Nothing new here.
I wonder what's the deal with Dawn? From their reaction to Sickle, it seems they are both catious of their intentions, but optimistic. As if the group could help them out with something. Were they attacked by monsters? Do they need pest control? I guess we'll know next chapter!
Why would a griffin use a ladder...
8039735 Sickle wears raider chic. Wouldn't you be nervous of the massive pony wearing heavy spiked armor, carrying the head of a 60 foot croc?
Griffon! Griffon griffon griffon! And she's female too!
*dances happily*
Maybe she's friendly!
.....one question....where is alicorn? I think it'd be awesome if they had to temporarily share a shelter with the awesome being.
Oh yeah that is the stuff!!
I have been feeling the withdrawal syndrome but two chapters made worth the wait :)
So a new ally is coming?
Also I still betting on Popsicle possible maternity xD
can someone remind me? where is dawn. i remember the name and that it was really impotent.
or am i getting mixed up with foe:ph
8040220 Well, in PH, Dawn is Glory's mother. I don't think it's a city name in any of the other FoE stories I've read.
8040877 i know its glory's mother. i was just asking if i am missing something.
8040905
I don't think you're missing anything. It's not intended as a reference to anything. It does have a little bit of meaning behind the name, but that'll be covered in the next chapter.
8041144
Happy birthday
8040905 Yo, you should really spoiler that. If I recall correctly, that's a fairly big plot point.
The waiting... The goddamned waiting...
Cragadile death claws. NOPE! Nopenopenopenopenope!
I'M ALREADY AT THE LAST UPDATED CHAPTER
...me and my quick reading
Great story
I know that feel bro.
So, wait! Now we have Deathclaws with litterally stone skin!? And people say normal Fallout is hardcore...
Sorry for the monthly reading delay of the last 4 chapters. On the other hand, try reading Zebras with hard chinesse or african accents. It's amazing!
Yay, griffon! :D
This is what I miss in 3d fallout games, the sense of scale when travelling. Everything seems a few minutes walk away.
It's the Canterlot wedding all over again.
painting an entire race by one factions actions. That's pretty bad.
It pits Whisper in a tight space because now she has two options.
one is to remain onominous, obviouspy.
but the second is better. If she reveals herself, she is more likely to enspire others to do the same.
it will also prove that not every changeling is an evil emotional vampire.
You know, it's occurred to me that I haven't once seen them drink rad away during this whole adventure.
I notice that odd as it is juxtaposed to nearly every other fallout story where they chuck the stuff like lemonade, adding it just as another common item.
I find it immensely odd that they would have so little radiation to worry about here.
I also notice that this story takes place pretty much after the ending time of the original fallout by Kkat, when Queen Chrysalis the sixth mentioned the goddesses death, and the marching of Red Eyes forces.
Does anybody else find a ghoul random encounter to count double in a freaky post apocalyptic rain forest?
I mean...how in the 7 circles of hell would a pony ever end up there?
better yet, how would they end up there long enough to turn into a ghoul?
what, did they try living there?
Aww man. I just thought this was the funniest thing yet.
"I see you."
"I see you too"
"...sup?"
Blackjack.
Littlepip.
Murky.
PuppySmiles.
You tell me how many badasses of the Wasteland have been more then simply fucked with.
Fluent as always, Sickle
Never change, Sickle. Never change.
Oh. Right. That. Yeah, I guess Dusty and Sickle just consider that "more crap the Wasteland has thrown at them", but Starlight... she'd be quite traumatised by that
Not to mention, it carries cargo
Hah. Understandable
She talked about her mom's recordings before. My bet, she's recording a diary.
Hah. Knew it.
Though that might be kind of an unsettling thing to a changeling, to have someone document you in audio files like that
Ah yes. Despite her side activities, she is keeping watch
That relaxes her? I'd be worried, personally.
Better question... what reign? It kind of ended two centuries ago
Heh. The Royal Wedding all over again.
In her sleep, in the camp, Sickle could be heard mumbling "Now fuck already..."
Diaries of a Changeling Infiltrator!
Oh. Ohhhhh. Well played, author.
Ah. An argument in favour of the dreaded "revealing of the changeling race"?
Well, yes, but you always knew that was a best-case scenario. I wouldn't plan on it
Okay, I'll give you that
The minigun doesn't count
I'm not surprised
Huh. Were they supposed to go towards an ocean?
Now the real question: is it inhabited?
Shoo be doo?
Oh... kay? Better greeting than a bullet, at least.
You bet your striped ass it is!
Aaand that made her a gorram instant celebrity. Hah.
Okay. Dawn it is, then?
Remarks and corrections:
> with only a hoofful of loose rounds to compliment the loaded magazines.
"complement". Unless the loose rounds are just there to make the loaded magazines look better
So now we know how Whisper is telling her story, I had honestly half expected a shift from past tense to present tense, a bit like Final Fantasy 10 does with its storytelling, doing like 3/4 of the strory in a "the story so far that brought me here" with a shift right before shit is about to get serious so we don't really know how the story will end since the storyteller have gone from telling the story to living the story out. With the whole 3 arc structure, something about this being the end/start of a book if I remember my chapter numbers correctly, could I totally have seen that happen, an uncertain future is an interresting aspect in a FoE story without a power fantasy after all, you never know what there could happen, how things would end... Beside with it keeping the storyteller style do we know that things went (relatively) well for at least Whisper since she could survive it all and tell her tale.
For the Fallout nerd that I am have I not read nearly enough up on radiation and such, but so far I know does the radioactive rain after a nuke come from all of the particles that was thrown up in the air with the explosion, 200 years after an explosion would one think that there are no more particles, because I can't see the water cycle pulling up any radioactive particles up into the clouds. Is this radioactive rain based on some know how that I haven't encountered yet, or based on the "everything is radioactive" theme of the games?
Nitpicks
" I’ll… have something by then. Just not an ending " on the sentence.
"Well… I suppose if I have to start somewhere" Contiunity error detected! She did not start out with a well in the first chapter, but the rest is letter for letter the same... "it would be with the day I was... reborn." Just without the ellipses... Unless it is covered under "and I ended up going back to touch-up some parts later on,"

For my story, it's entirely based off the original story doing it that way. As for why that story did it... I dunno. Probably because all the natural sources of water were radioactive in Fallout 3 and getting clean drinking water was a big deal, which would be weird if clean drinking water literally fell from the sky. Which apparently it didn't, because Fallout 3 apparently didn't have weather (from what I can find; been way too long to remember). So I'm guessing the original went with that to keep the whole "main sources of water are radioactive" thing.
Now, in the real world, you really wouldn't get radiation recycled into the rain except in unusual (And probably exceptionally lethal) scenarios. I don't know if evaporating water even could bring up radioactive particles. More likely, you'd only get it from wind kicking up radioactive dust from the surface and getting it mixed into the clouds... but then you've got so much loose radioactive material that the rain itself is less radioactive than everything around you, and since only a tiny fraction gets swept up by the wind, you're probably already dead from either radiation poisoning or toxic metal poisoning. And nevermind that after 200 years, that nuclear fallout is going to be much less dangerous, assuming it hasn't all filtered out into places that can't bother us at all. Fallout's nuclear fallout is the pop-science version of radiation that only superficially follows real-world laws, anyway.
But this is magical radiation, and it swings even further from the real-world rules. Magical radiation might not come from particles at all. It might not even come from matter. It might just be magical energy that gets "caught up" on physical material or space. On top of that, Equestria's rain cycle may just be a closed circuit, since we see them gathering up rain from reservoirs to drop all over Equestria, meaning it might well be the same rain all the time. At the very least, the constant cloud-cover means it may have been the same clouds this whole time. So if I were trying to come up with some explanation for radioactive rain, I might just say that the water was contaminated by exposure to the radiation, whether in the clouds or when it washed over other radioactive materials, and then this slightly radioactive water has been cycled again and again. Or it's the clouds or SPP towers that are contaminated, and spreading the contamination to the water they pick up.
But mostly... I dunno. It just happens.
Yeah, pretty much this.

Every active rain thing is actually pretty real to life. Due to the fact that the majority of the wasteland is arid desert pseudo desert at this point there are a lot of wind storms that pick a bunch of the still radioactive dust and dirt into the air. Clouds then form onto those dust and dirt particles using the strong winds from the destroyed landscape and all the dust in the air to cover the area and then when it rains it carries those dust and dirt particles down with it clearing the atmosphere but also becoming radioactive in the process.
> I rolled to my side, laid down, and waited.
Should be "lay down".
So hard to find a decent overview of that stuff though. I still use this archived page when I'm not sure.
This has the same energy as, "did you know little Pip has a cute little snore when she sleeps?"
AwwwwwWWWWWW YES YES YES YES YES!
Is this a reference to some anime or whatever?
Also cute pony changeling snuggles.

No? She's describing what they might find if they located another of the Cocoon sites, like the one Whisper had woken up in. If they could find such a site, and the changelings there were still alive, that might be a dozen or so changeling experts, each with sufficient skill to have earned one of the precious few places. And a dozen highly-skilled changelings would be quite a strong advantage for trying to deal with Serenity...
