Why do I write? Because I can't draw! I write mainly as an outlet, and don't take it too seriously. If you like what I write, awesome! If not, that's cool too.

T

War is an evil beast with a ravenous hunger. Its appetite consumes countless nations, races, sons and daughters. None involved ever come out unscathed, save for those who make the decision to send colts into it. Soarin had everything he thought he wanted, but is still haunted by his service in the Shetland jungles during the lunar wars. Justice wasn't done there, none of the royal court saw the things he witnessed; did the things he was ordered to do. All of Equestria was ignorant of the horrors of the most infamous war in pony history. Soon, all those who had gotten away with their war crimes would finally be punished for the blood on their hooves.

So I thought up this AU fic after seeing the movie Paradise Now. As always, feedback is always appreciated, be it negative or positive.

Couldn't tell ya. Writing is subjective, so I guess not everyone is going to like it. Thanks for the boost though! :pinkiehappy:

Quite nice work my good sir, please keep it up.

This doesn't nearly have enough views, and that's a crying shame. I haven't seen Paradise Now, but if this is a rough adaptation I might have to. I might have grown up in suburbia with plenty of opportunities, but that doesn't mean I turned out fine. One event can change you forever. To have faces haunt you, to be unable to let go of the mistakes you already made, can drive anyone to the edge. No one, even those closest to you, can ever understand unless they have gone through it.

This is the main reason for my love of this fic, and well written stories like it: Apocalypse Now, Jacob's Ladder, hell even Forrest Gump. They all deal with the consequences a traumatic event can cause. And while I will never fully relate to their pain, I can relate enough. Fortunately, I have the love of my friends to support me; Soarin received his too late

You truly are an expert of the quill. This is one of the most underrated fics I've read, and deserves more love

278774 Thanks! I feel like this fic may be too dark for EqD, and they probably aren't crazy about AU stuff, which this is. This is also a fic that initially received a low star rating, I assume because people didn't like the premise. But anyway, glad you liked it!

Read this way back when, but forgot to comment on it. Excellent writing as always, I must say, it captured the feeling of a war embittered veteran very well (I myself know of an older Marine who still despises the modern "war-machine" as he calls it, after his horrible experience in Vietnam). It is hard to imagine what people in horrid situations, such as war go through, but you fully respected the material at hand.

I did like this story, and as bad as some of the initial ratings were, I encourage others to read it too! Thanks for this read =)

Left some questions at the end. Did the bomb go off? Did Twilight make it?

I can understand his motivations for doing it, but why didn't he just talk to Celestia?

1538222 Soarin stopping in the middle of Twilight's name was an indication of the bomb going off. I'll leave it to your own imagination as to whether or not Twilight survived.

ok, you had that blog entry to read this the other day, so I just read chapter 1. I personally do not have a taste for this kind of story, but I know what effect you're trying to achieve with this story, and you're doing it well in this chapter. The chapter is well written, just not my cuppa tea.

I read the whole thing now. very truly sad. It did exactly what it was supposed to do. You wrote the story very, very, very well. poor twilight.

to be honest, i was hoping he would just get twilight to transfer his memories to celestia or something using a spell....but this was much more.... realistic. If i ever see some veteran set off a bomb that kills a political leader, i'm going to remember this story, and i'm not going to judge.

edit: also, tbh, i was listening to this song while reading this story, and i cant help but think it complements the mood of the story

:moustache: Damn fine writing sir!

Oh wow, that was excellent. One of my favorite stories now. Thank you.

I can't decide whether to give this a thumbs up or a thumbs down...

Dammit! You, you big meany... meanypants! :pinkiesad2: That was some excellent writing, but shit man! Come on! :fluttershysad: *sigh* Freakin, making me all sad an shit, and feels. Very well done. A haunting portrayal of the darker side of equestrian history, and the perils of war. I hesitate to say it was heavy, cause I hate that phrase, but I can't think of a word that better describes it. There is weight to this story. It gets in you, and it settles, and you feel it depressing you even though there are sparks of hope within it. Damn.

Please keep writing, I'll keep reading! Even if it takes me a while.
