LiterarySerenity

Hi! I'm a creative writer with a drive to become a better storyteller. :D

E

Pinkie Pie uses firepower to break the fourth wall and make new friends.

[Note]: This is just a short, silly story meant to play around a bit with experimental literature and metafiction. It is all meant in good fun, so please be gentle in responding. ^_^

Interesting concept indeed.

But I fear, now in this very and rare moment where the fourth wall is broken and I could talk to the ponies directly - nothing of sense will come out of my mind.

Maybe something along

*huff* *huff* *climbing out from a pile of shards and rubish*

"Oh dear - never had thought that really would work... ... And how do I exclaim that to my landlord?"

"Oh, sorry I'm late girls, I was just over at-".......*sigh* "Okay, where's Deadpool? I need to have a chat with him about breaking the fourth wall. It's been broken so many times it may as well not exist anymore." *CONTINUE HERE*

Hey girls ready to party?
I brought a sixpack:pinkiehappy::scootangel:

" Oh! Hi, Pinkie! I was hoping you would make it soon. And you brought all your friends, too! Yay! I'm so happy to meet you all. I hope I can come and visit, if it's not too much trouble and you aren't busy. "

All the ponies are looking at you in disbelief.....shock, even.

"I'm sorry. I'm such a nerd! I'll just go back and be quiet and not bother any of you. Sorry"

Pinkie gives you a hug and pulls you into the group.

" Don't you be such a silly filly! You can come and see us anytime you want!"

[IGNORE ME! Some things ponies were not meant to know.]

This is a fun way to play around with Pinkie breaking the fourth wall and talking to the narrator. I always figured that for most characters, finding out you are living in a story would be deeply disturbing. I can just imagine afterwards, everypony trying to do their best to block out the narrator. There's a great example by the mighty Obs that works as a great counterpart to this story, where Twilight wants the narrator to just shut up: A Twilight Sparkle Story

5774036 Thanks for sending the link! Obselescence did a great job capturing Discord in that narrative, and playing around with metafictional elements. I've always enjoyed stories that play take advantage of writing as a medium, break the fourth wall, and simply have fun with making light of the storytelling process in general. To be honest, it's what I'm focusing on in my graduate studies and hope to do more in my writings beyond FimFiction.net.

Then again, there are so many wonderful examples out there of stories that do exactly this. For instance, have you seen the original stage production of Into the Woods? It is one big fractured fairytale, where the narrator figures in as a character (and gets indisposed closer to the end).

I'm actually trying to decide whether or not I should write the epilogue as originally intended or let this one chapter be a "what would you say if such and such happened...?" type of situation occurred. Or, perhaps, to even go through the comments and answer each one in character as one of the mane six. What do you think?

5774102 Another example, one I don't remember the title of, is Pinkie Pie facing off against an evil narrator, and she manages to defeat him/her by \ changing the story from a 3rd person omniscient perspective to a 1st person narration that she gives.

My brother actually performed as one of the princes in In To The Woods, I feel his "Agony" was far superior to Chris Pines'. :twilightblush: I wouldn't be surprised if those two princes were a bit of inspiration for Blueblood.

All those options sound like a ton of fun, I can't really choose to be honest, I just love the idea of the other ponies besides Pinkie being forced to confront the ultimate truth of reality. I bet they'll regret ignoring her arch references now!

(When you write about self-aware meta-fictional characters, do you ever pause for a moment and look around, just in case a narrator is planning to use that moment as suitable irony to inform you that you are a character in a story?)

5774135 Ooh. That does sound like a fun story! Please let me know if you happen to remember its title. Somehow, Pinkie Pie seems more than a good match for any narrator.

Wow! That is incredible information. Congratulations for your brother getting that wonderful role. The song "Agony" always makes me laugh, and like most songs from Into the Woods, it's gotten stuck in my mind on more than one occasion. I forget, though, would the prince your brother played be the one who got together with Rapunzel or Cinderella? It's a small world indeed (although that's said in the best of ways).

Hah. Perhaps I will go ahead and write that epilogue--if to simply make reference to all the great people who commented on the story, and to have the characters knowledge them (and for Pinkie Pie to have a happy ending as well).

P.S. Yeeeup. It is an interesting feeling sometimes, when writing metafiction. Although, at the same time I must admit to making sense of my own life through stories in the first place, from memories of the smallest happenings to grand occasions. That's not to say I still wouldn't be surprised and incredulous if someone came up to me one day and said, "Hi. Guess what? I'm your narrator/writer/author." Still, metafiction can give you an interesting perspective on the world. Although, more than anything else, it's just fun--and a blank page is essentially a playground for creative thoughts in any case. ^_^

5777941 The story in question just popped up in the Similar category, it's Pinkie Pie the Narrator.

To be honest, I can never remember which of the Princes he was. I think he was the one who went after Cinderella, but I can't be sure.

Also, if you are in some sort of fancy graduate writing program, do you know any other authors who are really into meta-fiction? Just set up a hidden mike and camera where you can see them working on their laptop, get one of those cool voice changer apps, and give your friends the wonderful experience of feeling like they are characters in a story! :trollestia:

5769581 Pinkie Pie: Yoo-hoo! You bet we are. Let's party, pony style! :pinkiehappy:

5769814 Fluttershy: It's very nice to meet you... :yay:
Pinkie Pie: Let's be friends forever!

5769179 Twilight: Hmm, Deadpool. I'm not sure I have that in my books [teleports a thick reference book and begins flipping through it]. Is he some pony from your world? He must have a lot of experience in travel through dimensions. If so, I have so many questions! :twilightsheepish:

5768590 Fluttershy: Perhaps you could tell him that we didn't mean to, and then we can tell him in pony that we're so sorry!

This was a fun story overall, but the comments really takes the cake, it's like a reverse-fourth wall breaking story. (Fluttershy hiding in a rain barrel will never get old).

5781166 Hah. Indeed. The bulk of the fun was in the audience participation, and everyone just having fun reacting to it. ^_^

5777994 Oooh. Thank you for sending the link! ^_^ That was still pretty neat to hear your brother had played one of the roles in Into the Woods. Bravo.

Someday it might be nice to surprise another metafictional writer like that (especially if they wouldn't get too scared that someone had just hacked into their computer). Still, it could make an interesting short story, at the very least. ;3 There are definitely a lot of great texts out there that fall along similar lines, or deal with the act of writing in new ways. Have you ever read the novel for Neverending Story? There is also Walter Moer's The City of Dreaming Books, and several children's books have been noted for exploring that territory.

Are there any novels or other books that stand out to you, and which might fall into this category?
