SPark

Not checking in here. I may post stories because my patrons are nice and like ponies. Otherwise out of the fandom, sorry peeps.

T

For centuries no one has successfully challenged the might of the Draconian Empire. They rule most of the known galaxy with a heavy, clawed fist. Yet on one small, insignificant planet, that is about to change. When Princess Luna steps into a nightmare, and onto another world, she will give the rebels something they've never had before: a chance to win. For although the dragons control the high orbitals, sending death down on the helpless world below, Luna controls the power of the moons. And it just so happens that the rebel world has four of them.

Unlike most of my work, this story comes with no promises of quality, no promises of completion, and no promises that I will listen to feedback either. I am embarking on this project solely for my own enjoyment, because I am having fun writing it. I'm posting it only because I'm sure a few of you will also have fun reading it.

I suffered through a couple of moments of extreme cognitive dissonance after seeing ponies in the "Draconian Empire" starships, but you lampshaded that pretty cleverly. Strong story out of the gate! There's a definite sense of place and of menace here, and I'll be following along.

5310110 Huzzah! Somebody likes it! :pinkiehappy: (I think I've been spoiled by having a couple of popular stories, it's become a bit weird to post something and not get immediate comment. But I suppose I can't complain on this one, since it's really not up my usual alley.)

Considered me hooked.

5310507 Time for the nightmare to fall and usher in a new day of freedom for her little ponies.

5310121
Yeah, the silence here is a little weird, especially given your number of followers. But the quality is definitely high.

Added it to Sci-Fi Ponies. Let's see if that helps. :rainbowdetermined2:

5310683 Oooo, that's a group I'm not in, but totally should be!

I am curious, very much so, to see how the presence of four moons will affect Luna's might. Is it symbolic power? Or greater power in the dream world, enabling her to affect the waking world through it?

Or is it as I suspect many of us secretly hope, that in coming to this world with four moons, she has stepped into the light of a yellow sun....

Woo, an entry. :pinkiehappy:
I,ll have to give this a read before the day is out.

Aaaand done. Holy fuck nuggets. This is awesome. :rainbowdetermined2:

5310811 Well, it might not quite be the yellow sun situation. But it's going to be even better in some ways. (If more limited in others. But then Superman is a bit boring when you don't have kryptonite!)

5310938 Heee! I'm glad you approve! (I also really do hope the contest gets a few more entries, I'm really curious what other people will do with the idea. I'm having so much fun with this that I don't even care if I win, so I want to see some other good ones!)

Well, this is going to be glorious, in multiple ways.

5311043
As do I. It wouldn't be too much of a contest if you were the only one to enter. There's still ages to go though, so we should get more.

5311041
I maintain firmly that Luna's kryptonite is candied apples.

5311476 Thanks!

5311539 I really hope so. :pinkiehappy:

5311650 Well, I'll see if giving it a plug can help it along a bit.

5311959 Why do you say that? :rainbowderp:

5312733
... I'm not sure...

What... what is this miracle?:pinkiegasp:

Yes!! This looks so cool... I can't wait for the next chapters!!

5313463 Well, I'm glad you're enjoying it so far!

This story is great so far, can't wait to see where you take it!

Luna's power levels are increasing. :pinkiehappy:

Ha ha! The worms are so dead now!

I'm guessing what is about to hit them is something roughly moon-sized? :derpytongue2:

Out from the blackness, and into the light of a yellow sun...

Kind of.

Meanwhile, in space:

"Hey, am I hallucinating, or did that moon just change it's orbi... Oh crap"

*Explosions*

Oh, moons. Your wandering has just begun. :ajsmug:

"That's no space station, that's some bloody moons chasing us! Why are there moons chasing us!"

Ooo, this is going to be a great epic, I just know it.

5421042 Assuming I finish it. I'll probably finish at least book one, I have a good chunk of it written. I meant to post this bit last week, in fact, but just kind of forgot.

5421114 Heh, I know that feeling. Grand plans and the hopes to show them off one day. Good luck my friend, good luck.

Is that Changelings being thrust into the story?

"After all, it's not like any of the rebels have warships of their own. That would spell trouble."

Teeheeheeheehee

What about warmoons?

5424005 There's a changeling in the Rebel Dreams chapter too. So yes.

5424133
"That's no moon... it's a moon with an alicorn driving it!"

5424718 I find myself amused how everyone has jumped immediately to Luna driving a moon around. :pinkiehappy: That's not actually terribly practical! I won't say it'll never happen, but fighting conventional ships with a moon would be like trying to swat gnats with a sledgehammer. Mostly you're just going to make a mess of everything, and not get very many gnats. (Though admittedly the ones you do get will be very thoroughly squashed.)

5424799
That's the beauty of it. The moon-riding alicorn is a big flashy thing, so they'll all be to busy gawking and freaking out and posting to space-twitter to see that gravity lance coming in from the left.

5424799 5424828
We know it's not terribly practical, but practicality isn't the point.

The point is that each and every one of us gets an absolute gas out of the image of Luna sitting on the moon, reins wrapped around one hoof and ten-gallon hat frantically waved in the other, complete with a magically projected, "Yeeeeee-HAW!"

5424166 I think I can see were this is going  (At least in it's overall idea) Nice story!

Wee!! Let's go kill some worms!

Great to see this again and the past comes back to hunt poor Woona.

I think that what we see at the end of this chapter, more than anything else, is the evidence we would otherwise need to say that Luna has earned forgiveness for her actions as Nightmare Moon.

It's easy enough, after all, to not think about the loss of life that might result from selfish or careless actions we might take. Humans do this all the time, almost literally. The true mark of a civilized and most importantly, a rational and empathetic person, I would argue, is not that they avoid actions that would harm others — directly or indirectly — automatically, but that they stop and second guess themselves before they act.

Here, we see that Luna not only rejects her proposed actions as unacceptable, but that she understands why she considers them unacceptable. This kind of realization is more than just sobering — as we see, it's actually terrifying — but in the way Luna reacts to it, we see that she is exactly the right person for the job.

Luna has observed, "I have this great power."

If she were barbaric and cruel, she would ask herself, "How can I use it?"

But she is civilized and rational, even kind and caring, and unsurprisingly, she has instead asked herself, "How should I use it?"

I believe in Princess Luna.

5903580 Glad some folks are still reading!

5904322 There will be some further exposition on using power coming up. But you have the general gist of it here, yes.

5905169
That's what people say though, isn't it? "With great power comes great responsibility, but with absolute power comes absolute responsibility." Both Luna and the Navy have the power to inflict great harm and great destruction without needing much effort at all, and I'm excited to see if the only real contrast between the two of them is how they choose to exercise the power that they have.

Isn't that the real difference between good and evil, after all? Not the tools that you have available to employ but the way in which you choose to employ them?
