Applejack has the flu and it's definitely got her feeling upside down. Some medicine and a good nap should do the trick, right? Too bad she left the TV on while her disease riddled mind was trying to recover. Oh, and she should really check the label on her meds before taking them.

Note: Definitely cow themed, plus some (literal) udder weirdness and mentions of milking. Also, strong AppleShy tension.

Anyway, pretty hilarious. Though the dream thing was predictable. It was still pretty entertaining. I'd give it 8 dweebs out of 10.
That was weird. Not the dream thing, I mean, that was weird too, but it was supposed to be weird. What was weird is that Applejack and Granny Smith felt waay OOC outside the dream, but inside the dream AJ was actually fine. I feel like outside the dream, both Granny and AJ were bitchy in an OOC way. Using modern swear words pretty frequently didn't help with that feeling.
But in the dream everything was properly weird and well done, which I chalk up to her being confused rather than frustrated, Maybe you just need to tone frustrated AJ down a little if you write her again?
Anyway, I can't really upvote or downvote, and I just wanted you to know why.
ETA: Also, expired cold and flu medicine just gets weaker and doesn't work. Just FYI.

I attribute their OOC-ness to the fact of how often would this pop up in the show? Sure, they may not show it, but can we really expect that the characters are this way simply because they don't ever have to deal with these situations? (Yes, I understand, a flu does not outrank Discord/Tirek/so on...). I'm expanding their characters, instead of just basing them on the essentially half-a-personality that they exhibit on the show. But lots of people tend to get super grumpy when they get sick, and would neglect many things, even certain things you wouldn't expect them to. As for Granny, I see her as an old mare set in her ways and to see her house, the one that she has lived in for years upon years, to be so messy, sure, it would bring the fire out in her. Besides, she has been shown to become aggressive when 'challenged'.
Also, sick AJ would definitely be a little bit bitchy, because not only would she feel like crap, she would be unable to properly do her loving job, much like when she was overly fatigued in s1e4. They just had to downplay it.
As for the swear words, I've never met a southerner that didn't use them (including my own grandmother) and being a southerner myself, they were essentially part of daily life. Swears don't have to be offensive/rude, unless used in such a context.
As for the medicine, it was never explicitly stated that the pills caused her dreams. The fact that she still had a fever AND a crazy dream to go along with it proved that the meds did not work. I focused on them for the purpose of comedy. xP

Trust me, I've written AJ in a LOT of non-canon situations. The idea of keeping a character in character is that they need to feel like the same character, just in this different situation, whether they're grumpy from the flu, contemplating their father's recovery from alcoholism, or discussing with their girlfriend if it's the right time to have sex. Doing something outside of canon is no excuse for OOC. One of the great things about the show is that they are well rounded characters, and while everyone will have different interpretations, there are some things we know.
We know that AJ gets stubborn when she's grumpy, for example. Her kind of "oh, whatever" attitude here feels more like Dash. While AJ certianly could eventually give up if she's feeling sick, it would be less out of frustration and more because she's realized that it's the "right" thing to do ("I ain't any use like this, I'm better off just gettin' to bed.")
As for the swearing, AJ (and the Apples in general) strike me more as the "Granny raised me right" types, which is why the swearing felt out of place (and once again, more like Dash, who's less concerned with being respectable.)
And I just can't see Granny not knowing AJ well enough to know that if the house is a mess and she's sleeping on the couch, something is wrong. Besides the fact that she can take a temperature by feeling her forehead.
There are a lot of ways to write a character, and maybe this one will work for you. But to me, it didn't feel like the character from the show in a new situation. It felt like a different character (Dash, actually.)

Hmm... I do get what you're saying and after looking at the next chapter, which I already have written out, the 'awake' AJ in chapter 2 is pretty different. Hell, in my two other AJ fics i have in progress she doesn't act like she does in the first chapter... I wonder what changed?
I also see what you were saying about this being more RD than AJ. I can change it up a bit, cuz now its gonna bother the hell out of me. xD But not tonight. I'm sleepy. This'll be good to look at tomorrow.
