Thanks for your kind words. I had another idea first, and then I though "why not make Vinyl worse than a vampire" and then the rest of the plot sort of appeared instantly. It was going to be lyra at first, but Sweetie felt like a better idea.

Their homelife is quite regular, Vinyl doesn't like to use her demonform so she's a pony 99% of her time, and despite of drinking ponies blood, octavia is basically the way she's described in the fandom. so read one of those. The great ponyville orchestra for example!
5226723 There are two answers to this question. one, they are artists, and they don't take shortcuts. they have both sworn never to use their powers for fame, hence they are like any other artist, careful with media. Vinyl don't like killing ponies just for her survival. Octavia is more of a beast in that way.
