I know, right. How horrible of a person would I be to do that. Right as C&L are about to tie the knot (don't read into that, I'm just riffing here), the words forming on Celestia's tongue... she wakes up. Bam! Celestia has another 999 years before Luna returns. She walks out to the balcony, sits down, raises the sun, and never moves again, letting the world burn away around her.
Don't worry though, I'm not doing that. I like Celly too much.

I have to wonder why Luna did go Nightmare if she did still love her sister.
I mean, as far as I've seen general consensus about Nightmare is she was made because Luna had basically no friends. But here she had a supermodel level marefriend, so what gives?

My feeling was that Nightmare Moon was an external force that allowed the deeply-buried jealousy Luna was feeling about the daytime to come to the fore. (In the same way that Rarity became corrupted by the Nightmare Forces in the second IDW comic arc.)
