Julie LeBlanc, a human from France, visits Canterlot for a cultural exchange program and gets to know an interesting pair of stallions rather intimately.
I have seen stories like this before, but with all of them I have yet to meet an extremist or terrorist group wanting to closes the portal. Which in IRL would most likely be possible.
4914537 Well, sure. But there's actually another reason that's yet to be revealed. But you'll have to read the rest to find out why.
4914654 Well, while it's certainly realistic that such groups could form under these circumstances, you're not gonna find any here either. Terrorists and clopfics don't go well together in my experience.
Well, certainly not the direction I was expecting, but I'm not complaining! You've always been good at surprises.
Eagerly awaiting the rest. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. Also hoping to get an explanation of the pheromone thing in more detail, if it had something to do with her extra high price.
hmmm. initially, doesn't seem like the kinky stuff you usually write, but knowing how well you wrote the others, i'll at least watch where this one goes for now.
the whole bidding exchange thing seems a bit weird, though i can understand the intentions behind it (the good political ones). still seems like a sex friend auction. not saying that's bad though, just oddly written.
4914864 Why? If you learn about the other species, you automatically co-exist. That's the default state. Does the knowledge of another species automatically mean that you have to go to war or that one has to dominate the other?
Also the prologue makes it quite clear that less than a thousand humans out of six billion have ever set foot on Equestrian soil, because both sides have been taking a slow approach after First Contact. Humans are still very much alien creatures to the ponies and vice versa. But there's always gonna be someone who has to take the first step. The members of H.E.R.A. are pretty much the pioneers in that regard.
So I'm not quite sure what you mean by that statement.
4915010 Well, I'm not forcing you to read any further. But I'd like to point out that all instances of 'selling' and 'property' are being used in quotation marks. It's not meant to be taken seriously, and it's not exploiting one species over another, since males and females from both sides are taking part in this charity event. If anything, it's meant to symbolise that both species are above that concept of owning other individuals.
On a more personal note, I absolutely hate Fall of Equestria. Nothing could be further from what I'm trying to portray here.
Also, this 'First Contact' thing kind of reminds me of the First Contact War between the humans and turians in Mass Effect. What even happened in the First Contact thing in this fic, though?
Well, if you wanna bring Science Fiction into this. Let me remind your of another franchise that deals a lot with that concept. Star Trek.
You don't have to educate me on history. I am, in fact, a historian. But this is fiction. What's wrong with a positive message that peaceful first contact can lead to a beneficial relationship for both sides?
I'm not sure it's done anymore (I'm not even sure it happened in real life), but I've seen in movies charity auctions where people are put up to go on dates with the "buyer". Of course, the last movie I saw with this was Batman & Robin, so take it with a grain of salt.
4915113 Because auctions are among the things almost every charity uses to raise money. It's also a common trope in fiction to auction off eligible bachelors or bachelorettes for a date to raise money for good causes. Does that make the charity an institution of slavery?
At any rate, I said this before. Nobody is forcing you to read any further. If you don't like this story so far, then don't continue.
4915033 Have you never heard of a bachelor/bachelorette auction?
Celebrities put themselves up for auction for a charity event where rich people make bids for a date/evening together. While in the Earth version, this is generally just a date and only one night, this is more in a way to allow two races to interact with each other.
Also, did you miss that this is Sam's second time volunteering for the auction? If it were Fall of Equestria type thing as you put it, it wouldn't be something you volunteer for, and there wouldn't be a second time. Perhaps before you leap to conclusions, you should give things a second glance and actually think about what you're reading.
Tatsu, there's hardly any point in trying to reason with him. He's already made his mind up and no matter what we say, he'll stick to his opinion, no matter what facts are used. He's entitled to his opinion just like we are. Just let him be.
I'm really glad that someone has finally decided to put up a fic about a human women and an anthro-stallion! Usually it's the other way around or a female human and anthro-mare. It a good chance of pace from the norm! I applauded you my good sir or madam!!!
4915815 I was reading through the comments just waiting for someone to mention that. Also... 4916015
Samantha Carter from the United States of America. She's a physicist and astronomer
Yeah. Just an american name huh? Nothing more? That's even the same cover story Sam from SG1 uses as a cover on earth IIRC. I love you for doing that. SG1 was awesome. I've watched and own phisicals of all 10 seasons. In regards to the story though, love it and now I'm going to read the rest.

4914464 Dammit man I was going to use that bit oh well great minds think alike.
Lets see how far the rabbit hole goes on this one
Redheads and Orientals are tied for the best as far as attractiveness is concerned, so it doesn't surprise me that they bid so much on Julie.
4914537 Word.

Well it would add a bit of tension to the story...
But that aside I need to start typing up my story which involves a human that is Xenophobic.

Bye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. No one's forcing you to read this. Don't like it? Move on. Simple as that.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
4915181
...I'm just unhappy about him badmouthing Naughty_Ranko over the story you commissioned her to write for my birthday present...that's all...
4915189
Nah, I'm not worried about it on my end. Just pisses me off that he came in on Naughty_Ranko over something I commissioned her for.
And don't let some crybaby ass kid ruin your present. After all, I did it for you
4915189
It's alright, Tatsu. I'm a big girl. I can deal with negative comments. But I appreciate the sentiment. Thank you.
4915188
You're doing good like always, Ranko. Sorry if I'm causing you any unnecessary headaches, but I sure am glad you're doing this
4915204
4915210
Thanks, both of you. I'll just try not to think about it and enjoy my present.
4915254
Please do. The main part is still coming, after all.
4915303
Looking forward to it.
Is the name Samantha Carter a reference to the Stargate sieres
4915815
Sort of. I was just trying to think of some kind of typical sounding American name and hers was the first one that came to mind.
4916015 well you got 2 birds with one stone

Right? You almost never see that. Either in art or fics.
4916886 I know, that's why I give you major respect for doing something like this.
dang it i wasnt the first to point out the stargate reference
4916886 wet their appetites? either you misspelled whet, or that's a double entendre.

This "auction" part is making me feel as if "happy ending" part is a must and that makes me really uncomfy.
The very first sentence you had her name is when I thought of her.

Fuck yes Stargate: SG1!
