Derpy Hooves hasn’t had much luck in life. Aside from having a bad set of eyes and being a poor flier, she isn’t exactly the best at working her job. All she wants is love, a stallion who will accept and love her for being the pony she is.

*Applause* This was a very nice chapter for how it had kind of a 'foreboding' feel about it from start-to-finish. Amethsyst is doing what most older kids / young adults would do when they don't want to try and explain difficult things to little kids. She's being very vague while trying to divert attention away from herself so no questions can get a chance to be asked.
What really grabbed me was the sense of feeling like I was in Derpy's hooves. The times where things were awkward and/or not as desirable where you'd write "But that was okay" or "But that's okay". It wasn't directly from Derpy but you could tell it was to help the reader know we were to see this chapter from Derpy's standpoint. Kind of like an additional distraction from the looming event that will come when Diamond comes home with baby brother...
Derpy looking at her hooves definitely gives hints into her coping mechanisms. Each time, for me, I could tell it was a mechanism for trying to 'ground' herself. She needed a moment away and looking at her own hooves helped her to do that.
I understand Derpy's feelings on being 'touched' where you can't be seen. Being blind has people open to touching you quite a bit. There was genuinely one employee, she is new, who actually rubbed at my upper-thigh a bit while caressing my upper-back. Given how a divorce is in progress I more than felt uncomfortable with this and, with help from a co-worker, I talked to my supervisor about it. It has not happened since. :)
I like the moment where Derpy saw AJ basically running circles around her leaf raking and putting them into bags. You could feel that 'why can't I do that?' frustration. Derpy knows she works hard but she also sees so many other ponies doing far more than she does every day. It's got to be tough.
I wonder if AJ's 'touch' was kind of Jackie's start in her interest in mares or if if it was just a typical gesture to get Derpy's attention?
Definitely a lot open to interpretation here. :)

Thank for the kind words pardner. This one gave me quite a bit of trouble ^^
Having co-workers try to to come on so aggressively, especially with everything that's going on, that's... not cool. Glad you had someone you could talk to and things worked out for you.
In truth I actually did not mean to publish this chapter yet. I think I accidentally struck publish at an ungodly AM trying to save it and close down the tab before going to sleep. I was only planning on doing just one more editor/proof-readers run though before publishing, though XD
Some of the changes here came at last minute, hence the final run and lack of a blog post, but looking after giving it some time I'm glad for them. Sometimes what people inspired to do at the last minute, often unrestrained, can yield favorable results... other times not so much.
Hope all is well
