Well, it hasn't been explained in any kind of detail so far, we've just gotten bits and pieces of things here and there. All we know for sure is that the Elements actively manipulate events to further their own goals, and the results of their manipulations are not always good, harmonious, or even things that wouldn't immediately be declared a war crime.
From what I've seen, it seems like the Elements are acting as a sort of prophetic guide, making sure that certain events happen at the right times in order to reach a particular end goal. Now, how in depth those manipulations are remains to be seen, but they do have a definite final goal that they're trying to reach and are more than willing to kill, imprison, and manipulate every being on the planet in order to get there if that's what they have to do.

for the diamond dogs kind of but when you actually look up foxes online their latin name is Vulpes Vulpes and the wolf is Canis lupus while the domesticated dogs are called Canis lupus familiaris so both dogs and wolves are canine and lupine canine is just spercifically given to dog and Lupine is given to wolves, but foxes don't fit anywhere in there they may be distantly related but foxes are neither canines nor lupines( also as a funny side note your pet dog is your familiar)
