I got the idea of the story from this song!

Well when I saw this story's title, I just had to play this song while reading it. Really helps with the feels.

While this is a good 'sad' read, I can't help but wonder why Sombra would kill the guard, but when he had a chance at Shining later would only curse his horn.

I took account that Sombra was trying to prevent Shining Armor to magic first. Then kill him off, but Shining then escaped. The royal guard could of met the same fate but was unable to escape.

4491797 Okay, I can buy that.

Wow, that was pretty emotional. Makes me really detest Sombra.:twilightangry2:

I'm crying :fluttercry:
It makes it worse knowing my dad has similar feelings since he served in the military. Very touching story, you've earned a thumbs up.

4802462 Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it:)

4491797 I would have thought it was Sombra siesing the opportunity for some fun. Random royal guard? Kill him and carry on. Husband to the princess of love? Let him sit through the empires destruction after taking his only real means to do anything to stop it.

4830320 I don't understand what you are getting at?

4830404 I just thought because of his cruel and cunning nature Sombra wouldn't want to just kill somepony like the captain of the guard, sworn to protect the princesses no matter what. But instead take his power and then let him watch the Empire fall, his friend and all the Crystal Ponies get enslaved and then tell him that he had failed to protect them. By the way, I like the story. I'm just sharing a theory.

4834021 That's is a good theory but Sombra would hesitate to kill any obstacle in his path if he felt threatened.

4834621 True. :trixieshiftright: Now that I think about it we could have stumbled across an argument for why Sombra would be a real threat if he ever returned. Not gunning for the princesses straight after he had the Empire under control could have been the reason they had time to attack him and seal him away for 1000+ years. So when he got his second chance he decided it was time to stop playing around and, as you said, immediately eliminate any potential threat. What we have hear is a villain who actually :pinkiegasp: learns from his mistakes!
