Very strong story, great style as well! The minimalist flair left me satisfied, but also with a desire for more.You obviously take pride in your writing.
There was one line that irked me
The story's told in past tense, yes. However, unless there's a change, he should still be a changeling. A small tweak, but something that stuck out.
Carry on the stories with something like shining coming to the pub often

Should have killed him. I would have.
It never is easy to kill, especially once we learn and understand the reasons for the behavior that led to death. Never easy, to learn that otherwise, they would suffer a terrible fate. Peace, a chance long gone now, with the hunting of the few survivors, of the cripples, those that can barely defend themselves, to be tortured and barely surviving with the knowledge that there are more out there, awaiting a similar fate.
Should we kill Shining? Or should we let him live?
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I liked it even if it wasn't my preferred view of changeling / pony relations after the invasion. I must have missed the "Dark" tag.
