    1000 bally views!

    Hello chaps and chappettes,

I think my position as a C-list brony celebrity is well assured, as my beloved Magnum Opus "So Long and Thanks for All the Ponies" has reached 1000 views! Or at least, one chapter therein has. Whatever, it's still an achievement.

This is enough of a milestone for me to celebrate a little I feel, and in honour of this I am hereby promising to churn out chapter 19 in record time. It will be finished and sent to my proofreader before I lay head to pillow tonight, and there will be swimming its way to you within the next twenty four hours! It's just my way of saying thanks, I have to say I'm really happy to be getting as much support as I am, and you guys are great. Who would have thought there would have been so many Hitchhiker's Guide Fans in the brony fandom, and there would be so many who would enjoy my painfully slow updates and clumsy imitation of a true master of writing? I feel truly flattered.

I'm even famous enough to have my own entry in the Guide itself!

"Much has been said about the author Sir Ginger (aka the Branga, aka Angareous, aka Gusboy, aka Hot-stuff, and aka That-ginger-nobhead).

Author of My Little Pony Fanfiction, Sir Ginger is a humanoid Earthling best known for "The Last Element" and the more popular "So Long and Thanks for All the Ponies", the latter now approaching it's 20th chapter. The reason for his (admittedly small) popularity is a subject of hot debate among his own fans.

Dr. Alphaetus_Prime, of the faculty of metaphysical jiggery-pokery at the University of Maximegalon theorised publicly that he might be in some manner channeling the far more popular author Douglas Adams. One BronyRanger disagreed, positing that it was clear that Douglas Adams never died, the implication being that he had picked up a pseudonym for some reason, and gone on to write crossover fanfiction of his own creation. BronyRanger's theories are widely considered bunk however. The wide and highly unlikely variety of opinion was perhaps best summarised by Mr. Honey Mead, a drunken hobo found screaming about the author in question in between wild conspiracy theories about the Hooloovoo being responsible for the Krikkit wars. He opined that one of three things had to be true: Either Douglas Adams never actually died, or he had been reincarnated, or he had had his soul implanted artificially into another human being. All of these are clearly bunk.

Also considered bunk is bookplayer's theory that his own special talent was the ability to make authors, specifically Sir Ginger, update their stories. This was disproved repeatedly when Sir Ginger continued his longstanding habit of sitting at home picking his nose rather than writing anything.

The practical upshot is that nobody is sure of anything about Sir Ginger, except that he is ostensibly an author with a poor grasp of the difference between "it's" and "its" and an uncanny ability to convince people he has a modicum of talent. The Guide resolutely refuse to answer questions regarding "The Lost Futurama Reference" or Sir Ginger's relationship with iLoveportalz0r.

    Harmless. Mostly."

    Happy Towel Day!

Blah blah delays blah blah apologies blah blah busy blah blah. Whatever, you have heard it all before. I take more than a month to type out barely over 2,000 words, I bitch a bit about how busy I am, you all read the chapter and the get on with your lives. La dee da. Except this time, Towel Day happened. I donned my dressing gown, turned the lights off, grasped my mug of tea, set “Journey of the Sorcerer” to loop and held my muse at gunpoint until it did something for me. At the time of writing, Towel Day has just ended. If you don't know what it is, it is an annual day of celebration for fans of Douglas Adam's amazing work, and a day on which noone should be without their towel. Hopefully I will get i back from my excellent proofreader before towel day is over for all of you johnny-come-lately yanks.

Wow. Englishism right there. Do you have the phrase "johnny-come-lately" in America? I don't think anyone in England really says it anymore, much less so in my home here in Australia. I think I may be a bit peculiar.

Good news on the future update front, the holidays will begin in just a few weeks, during which I will have no study, almost no work, almost no parades and nothing to stop me from dedicating my time to finishing this story on a real high note. Well, I may be all different kinds of passed out with various friends, but I will nonetheless do my utmost to bring you the gift of pony a little bit more regularly.

Oh, and I have bought a copy of "And Another Thing". My opinion.... ehhhhhh. I can't say it's bad, but it hasn't made me laugh out loud yet, and frankly that was always the point. I can;t count the number of times I would laugh out loud at the originals, and then look around to see if anyone was there to ask me what was so funny, just so I could repeat it to them. This new one hasn't done that to me yet. It has good bits, but it just doesn't feel as sharp as Douglas Adams. Not to say it isn't funny in parts, or that it isn't basically well written, but... eh, I don;t know. I'm no reviewer.

It feels like a fan-fiction in a way. A good fan-fiction, probably better than my own, but still just that bit off. There's too much of it which feels like it's just tied to the original, with not enough new stuff thrown in. It's ok to reference the older works, but the fact that almost every race he has mentioned so far already came from the previous books makes it feel a bit less fresh than it could have been, especially when he's bringing up a new fact that doesn't NEED to be about a previously established species.

Anyone else read it, and ready to offer an opinion?

    News and Such

Well, I am officially ensconced I think. I have posted a chapter other than my initial dump, I have stories that I follow, stories to very definitely NOT follow, and a pleasant spot of comment based dialogue. So, what am I posting here? A couple of announcements.

First, thanks to anypony and everypony who comments on my works in any way, shape or form. Comments; be they feedback, criticism, suggestions, jokes, offers of sexual congress, aspersions on my ability at sexual congress or anything at all, they are my pay off for every chapter. They are my crack cocaine. In the days following a published chapter, I will obsessively click on the notifications button several times a day just to bask in the warm glow of comments. Yes, I'm a whore, get over it. So if you like my story, chuck a comment my way, much in the manner you chuck a few coins at the feet of the beggar who just danced for you (normal people go around paying beggars to dance for their amusement right?). Please. I have a habit to feed.

Secondly, SLaTFAtP is nearing it's ending and climax, and I only hope that the last few chapters (no idea yet on precisely how many) amuse you all. So, where do I go from here? Well, I'm very excited about a new project that has taken over most of my mind in recent weeks. It will be a more dramatic work, and a bit more grimdark. Let's just say I'm holding off on reading any war based fanficitons until it's underway and planned out (yes, this one I am planning the whole story from the beginning, unlike SLaTFAtP, which is planned maybe a chapter in advance if it's lucky), just so I don't lose sight of my own story every time I read some other writers awesome idea.

Thirdly, those new to my works my be unfamiliar with how long updates take. It's a while. SLaTFAtP requires a very specific mood to write, and that only coincides with me having free time once in a blue moon. The last chapter was written in only two nights of actual typing, with the rest of that three weeks being devoted to study, work, social life and military exercises. Hopefully this new project, being less comedy oriented, will be easier to stick to a schedule with. I'll have to see.

This is Sir Ginger signing off.

SLaTFAtP sounds like a rude word.

    SLaTFAtP.

    SLaTFAtP.

:edit: iloveportalz0r is a big meanie poo-head who can go slatfatp himself.

More popular than the "Celestia's Homecare" omnibus, better selling than "Fifty-Three More Things to do When Trapped on the Moon", and more controversial than the infamous "Cupcakes", how does the story of this remarkable book differ in a universe full of... pony?

After escaping the destruction of Equestria at the hands of some big ol' meanies, Pinkie Pie leads her friends on a series of baffling, mind boggling and downright nonsensical adventures through a galaxy where harmony is in short supply, but aliens, monsters and chaos are most definitely not.

Gasp! As they meet strange alien creatures!

Cry! As emotional torment assails our characters!

Groan! As the Author includes yet another 4th wall break!

And most importantly, DON'T PANIC

YES! This is AMAZING! This NEEDED to happen! Thank You for posting it here, you wonderful, hoopy frood! I'd love to sass you sometime!

Edit: Anyone else? No? Okay then...

I read the title and instantly knew that this will be AWESOME :pinkiehappy:

Have some stuff I want to complain about!

"more controversial than the infamous "Cupcakes" fanfiction, This wholly remarkable book" - Random capital letter

"Then they pealed away, leaving nothing behind." - Wrong word (try peeled)

"The Hitchhikers Guide, in a moment of surprising clarity" - Missing apostrophe

"One race which, by some quirk did not gain this ability to write off tragedy are the Mardajons of Lepluss." - Missing comma

"evolution is the driving force behind all life in he universe" - :pinkiegasp:

"Back in the void left behind by Jeltz, a bright spark of light moved around, trailed by another purpler one." - Not sure if using wrong word, or just reading wrong...

"And she did, including Everypony there." - Another random capital letter :fluttershysad:

"Vogon’s know exactly the right fiction to bring out" - Unnecessary comma

Oh, god. Considering how bad Vogon poetry is, I can't even begin to understand how terrible their fanfiction will be. :pinkiesick:

*shudders*

Ah, the references!

...this is just a repost of last chapter.

I love Zaphod's cutie mark. You couldn't have made a better choice! :pinkiehappy:

Funny how this story has more hitchhiking in it than the actual Book Trilogy.

Rarity will never cease to be a marshmallow. :duck:

"Luckily, none of the above actions are in any way forthcoming. The safety of the innocence of the readership is absolutely assured for the time being."

Damn it!

It took me a moment to realize that Pinkie has five hooves in the cover art.  Well played.

>>402664 Ugh, it's like a hundred goffik writers all came together to write the biggest Mary Sue in the entire universe ever.

"SWEET CELESTIA HUGGING ME IN MY FOUNTAIN CANDY!”

Is that an innuendo?

...Is this?

VOGON FANFICTION!?!?!?!?!?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

What's this?! A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy/MLP crossover?! MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go shed tears of joy for about a half hour before I get to read this.

This is a work of pure genius. Discord powering the Infinite Improbability Drive makes so much sense.

actually, it is not mach 1, but mach 5 at which a sonic rainboom accuors. someone did the callculations.

FIRST!!! and nice I-Robot reference.

-It is this remade Earth that our heroins escaed from-

Escaped.

I love the movie... and I love this fan fiction.

oh, and I would be happier if you added this part ===>(so long, and thanks for all the fish)

Awesome !

Thanks for coming here :pinkiehappy:

I, um, don't have gifs to express this, because there aren't gifs to express this. There isn't enough incoherent fangirl squeeing in the universe to express this. I have to use words.

This whole story so far is the best fanfic I have ever read in my life. This is near the top of the best fiction I've read in my life. I'm a huge fan of Adams (and Pratchett as well) and it's been a very long time since I've read anything as funny as this. I want more then a "like" button. I wish there was a "READ THIS NOW BECAUSE. . . JUST DO IT!" button.

I need more. Please. I would seriously pay for more of this fic. On the other hand, I'm left feeling that if you finish this fic it will mean the end of fanfiction, because no other fic will compare to it. (But, um, no pressure or anything. . . I'm shooting myself in the foot, aren't I?)

What I mean to say is amazing, excellent, incredible job, sir. Please don't stop.

"Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz saw that the gun was having no effect, but continued firing out of spiteful stubbornness."

You really have got the vogons dialed in, haven't you author? :twilightsheepish:

I swear, it feels like you are channeling Douglas Adams himself. This is what H2G2 would be if a pony version of Douglas Adams wrote it in Equestria.

"Backup restored." ... *snort, facehoof*

The sad thing about that snippit of Volgon fanfiction is that it sounds just like many actual fics people have written. XD

I only begged for more two days ago, and then this shows up! If my special talent is getting awesome fanfic to update, I'm really okay with that. Not sure what the cutie mark would look like, though.

Amazing once again. Thank you for writing such a fantastic story.

Thank you so much for bringing this awesome to fimfiction!

I predict the invention of many, many new forms to be filled out in increasingly unlikely situations coming from that vogon. He will also get a promotion out of it, because really, what if something the new forms were for DID happen? They wouldn't have any paperwork or propper procedure for it! Of course, first he would have to invent, and fill out, the form authorizing a vogon to do whatever the heck he wants in the event that a cosmic entity brainwashes him after said cosmic being has been shot with a full ammo clip from a standard issue personal sidearm. Said cosmic entity will also be billed for the cost of said ammo clip.

You get 6/5 Twilights

I know, right? He's doing a really good job of keeping the feel of the Guide, without just repeating all the jokes.

Theta, eta, gamma ...

I see what you did there. :facehoof:

Never forget your towel

PINKIE'S AN ALIEN!!

Somehow, this doesn't surprise me...

Hooray? Yes, very much so! Hooray is correct!

After loathing Google docs and now enjoying the more palatable FiMFiction, i'm very happy that EqD noted an alternative posting of this wonderful series AND it's being located here!

I am also equally annoyed at myself for never looking to see if this story was ever here to begin with.

Guess I'll give myself a break, relax, and just enjoy the read. Mm?

:pinkiehappy:

Interesting. If teleportation conserves only momentum, you'd still get left behind, as the planet keeps moving during the teleport (it does not appear to be instantaneous). As a consequence, teleportation spells would require one to keep moving during the teleport itself. Furthermore, they'd also have to account for gravity and other forces, for without them the teleportee would continue in a straight line, shooting off into space (or the center of the planet) due to the curved path a planet follows.

Which begs the question: When and how does the actual translocation occur? :twilightoops:

Sorry, I couldn't help it :facehoof:

Unrelated point, but possibly symbolic. The theme tune for the TV show of Hitchhiker's Guide dubs perfectly over the intro to MLP. Sorry it's not related to the fic, but it's a fact that brings me joy.

>>482699

Wow, I am not going in this direction, but I almost wish I was... I admit that would be hilarious.

>>498674

Teleportartion is also instantaneous, it takes an infinitely small amount of time. This means the planet is still, for your purposes, in the same place.

That's the hand wave I literally just thought up.

>>499069

Mashup vid please? Or Am I going to have to attempt to do business with youtube doubler?

>>499069

I did the deed... and holy crap it fitted well.

>>528594

That's none too remarkable, it turns out. I've got a vast list of songs you can put over the intro that work perfectly.

I am so, so, sorry that I waited this long to begin reading.  Take my like.
