StormDancer

Nope

T

Ever since Applejack and Rarity were stranded at Twilight's for her very first slumber party, Twilight's been inviting her friends over for 'proper' slumber parties just so that they could all have a bit of fun and relax. Over time, it's become tradition, leading to some rather entertaining antics between the six friends.

But one of their favorites has become the telling of scary stories. While Twilight delights in the socializing and Rarity savors the creative process, Dash and Applejack have taken to trying to beat one another for the scariest tale. Surprising everypony, even Fluttershy's taken to listening with rapt attention. Her stories have all been rather gruesome - she does work with dangerous animals after all - though no one's quite sure why she likes it so much... maybe it's like Pinkie said... sometimes it's just fun to be scared. And speaking of Pinkie, her stories are alwa-...
...
Wait, come to think of it, Pinkie's never told one of those scary stories. She's always been making snacks or setting up for the pillow fight, or ... something. Hmmm.... maybe she doesn't like 'scary' as much as she's been pretending?

Whatever the case, Dash is determined to find out.

*Clap* *clap* Good job, sir. This story was amazing!

..........:pinkiehappy:...:.....:pinkiecrazy:

I think the stark lack of details at times forces us to use our imaginations (much like the characters listening to the poem) and makes for a good story.

"w-well, it'd be more like walking along the street and suddenly falling through the ground. Tumbling end over end, and too scared to even reach out and catch yourself as you fell, the light dwindling to a speck as your very idea of the firmness of the ground betrayed you." a soft voice from next to Rarity said.

So it begins.

Overall, a truly wonderful story, and one that has that twisted form of horror that just keeps you guessing.

Why, thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it.

Warning: Spoilers in the page quotes.

That... was... AMAZING! It was genuinely scary and bone-chilling without even doing much!

"The terrible dance of blades,"

Twilight's ears snapped up as her face grew pale.

"And the victor bows as no one claps,
All eyes are glazed."

That sent chills down my spine. I did not see that coming! Oh, and that final reveal...

If the story was really true, and only one pony 'won' the dance... it would make sense not to tell anypony else that they had been there, she reasoned.

So, if they wanted to tell the story, but not get caught, they would have to say they heard it from somepony else. But that doesn't make sense since nopony else survived, which would mean that Pinkie's uncle Mincemeat....

Twilight's eyes opened wide as her pupils shrank. What kind of a name is Mincemeat anywa... oh sweet Celestia.

More chills! Excellent work! :pinkiehappy:

<chuckles> Happy to see you enjoyed it.
Any chance you can edit the comment to be Set to spoiler so folks cruising the comments can maintain a surprise? I'm always happy to have compliments (or critiques, for that matter), but it's nice for new readers not to have surprises dropped before they start reading.

8150814 ...Well, okay but... Why would anyone look at the comments before reading the story itself? That doesn't make sense. :rainbowhuh:

EDIT: Ehh, apparently, you can't set spoilers on page quotes. So, I put a spoiler warning at the top.

<chuckles> because people are silly.

Glad you liked it.

Pinkie makes a perfect "Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant" xD She is crazy just enough for you to believe any horror under right circumstances, but Pinkie herself wouldn't even notice! And that is perfectly played here: "I guess ice skating really IS a scary story", lol.

<chuckles> Glad you enjoyed. I'm still surprised that folks manage to find this after all this time, but it's always a treat to see it's appreciated. Thanks for that!

Blame that block between the story and the comments xD
You can't scroll down to comments without seeing several "also liked" / "similar" story suggestions and that ensures that my reading queue never shortens. And those suggestions don't seem to care about how old a story is, so anything has a chance. I'm often conflicted when a story seems interesting but hasn't updated for years, is reading whatever is there worth hitting an eternal cliffhanger?

<chuckles> Hey... works for me. <shrugs> I don't see many in that list that I haven't already read, but at least it explains how new folks stumble upon some of them.
And really? Always having more reading material? Is that truly a cliff we need to worry about?
<smirks> Still, happy I was able to lend a few minutes of entertainment. Have a good one.

I can't tell if Pinkie is blissfully unaware of what the story is about, if it's really just about skating, or if she's playing innocent on purpose and showing off how creepy she can be because she knows being scared can be fun.

And honestly, I think that enhances an already great story. Well done!

Glad you enjoyed. And you're right, sometimes not knowing makes it better.
