Woohoo, first story written by me, it's a one shot so please tell me what you think.

Do not move, I said do not move or they will find us. Who you ask? Them, you will know who they are when you need to, the same information will be divulged about me at that same point. All you need to know right now is that you are not to move an inch until I say it's safe to do so.

As you should know these creatures are dangerous or I would not be hiding you from them, I've spent too long tracking you down to just let you vanish again. They invade our towns and cities and castles, they even invade us, our homes and everything we own, defiling them, destroying them, making them anything but what the are meant to be.

I do not wish to harm you so stop moving damnit, you need to stay still or they'll hear us, their hearing is heightened above our own you know... Almost sharper than a cat's hearing capabilities, they cannot hear me though, for reasons you will soon find out. I've heard of these things in other lands, each with their own name and traits but they all share a common idea; they are and are dangerous to the inhabitants of any land they are in.

I realize you are getting irritated with my constantly holding you down but you will try to run if I let you go, and don't go through all that bullshit about "No I wont, just let me go and I'll do what you want." Because I know what you will do, I've known you for too long to listen to that crap, now stay down and stop squirming.

The lands were all peaceful until they arrived and began to cause havoc and mayhem all over, but unlike Discord, they worked indirectly, spreading rumors and terrifying ponies, griffins, zebras, dragons and donkeys alike in their dreams and during their days. These things kept making the sunniest days into the most dismal of times in the lands...

I can see you are remembering now, remembering just what these things are, it's flowing back into your mind ever so slowly pouring into your subconscious knowledge, making you realize just what makes them so bad so... Dangerous...

They are shadows... Or that's what most perceive them as, that harmless thing attached to your hooves when you walk around is dangerous and consumes you every night when Princess Luna's moon covers Equestria. It feeds off of your warmth at night, growing stronger more powerful and soon they are strong enough to take us back to where they reside: the afterlife.

Shadows make life at night terrible and terrifying, a truly horrifying time, these shadows were the reason Nightmare Moon came into being. The ponies, fearing the shadows slept to keep themselves safe from the horrors they wrought in Luna's time of office, the night, the time of beauty is the night, Luna's time, the time the shadows are alive...

The shadows are mimics, taking on a similar shape to everypony during the day and consuming all during the night, they are the reason nights are cold and days are warm.Their covering of the lands chills them to the core, terrifying even the very earth we walk on, not even the pegasi are safe, the shadows coat even them during the nights when they arrive.

But it is day you say, yes, yes it is the day time, but today is a special day, a day when an eclipse of the sun was planned by the sisters to commemorate the defeat of Nightmare Moon. This empowered the shadows and now they roam among us as physical beings, making their presence known and making us prey to their powers.

I've already been attacked by the shadows and have been scarred by their evil powers, I am cursed to become one of them, a shadow... That is why I am here to tell you how to stop them, how to scare them, for unlike Nightmare moon they cannot be calmed, unlike Discord they cannot be reformed, unlike Sombra they cannot be defeated, unlike Tirek... They cannot be imprisoned...

You can only scare the shadows away with light, and there is light within us all, we just need to find it and unlock it... this is the hardest thing for anypony to do because it means we have to find the one thing about ourselves we do not like and to embrace it, make it the thing we are known the most for.

Yours is that you are to proud of your skills, too open about them, boastful even, you need to embrace it and abolish it from your subconscious and make it a good thing about you, boast about doing good for others for once, not about your powers my friend...

To find one's light takes time my friend; weeks, months even, so please try as hard as you can to find yours, for me and for everypony else's sake, teach them what I have taught you... I must go now, goodbye Rainbow Dash, my old friend...

As he flew away I could hear his screams of pain, anger and terror all mixed into one blood boiling scream... I saw him fly towards a dark shape and engage in a fight, his body glowing a brilliant white that not even Rarity has seen on her dresses and suits, not even in Canterlot was there a white as blindingly beautiful.

Those words he kept repeating... "Do not move" they stay with me even as I write this letter to you, my shadow has been different ever since, looking more like a stallion than a mare, and I never feel cold at night, it's like there is a veil of warmth at any time, keeping me warm, even on the coldest of winter nights.

I travel around during the night now, helping the ponies I see, unlocking my light and fighting off the shadows I see, teaching Shatterwing's word to all, having them unlock their inner light too, allowing them to fight off the shadows alongside me, I wish for you and your sister to do the same now Princess Luna...
