Imperaxum

Gott schützen den Kaiser!

T

An uncharacteristically adventurous, for her race, earth pony: a unicorn with mediocre magic, and a pegasus that prefers the wheel of an airship than personal flight. Together, these three explore the East, far past Equestria's shores.

Each of them have the past hanging over them - and not dark, tragic ones, per say. Only pasts that motivate them into going where no pony has gone in decades. And so do many others on their journey - for the East is a place of both a place for remembering your ancestors, and making your own history. War looms over the East - the scattered Griffon Kingdoms and Saddle Arabia are at each other's throats again.

And above all, they'll find that the East is a place of grey on grey. Good and evil are arbitrary terms at best.

A true adventure story, grand in scale and scope.

Set in the same universe as Tainted Reflection, containing a specific griffon in particular.

Contains light gore.

Will I finish "The Thief and the Amulet"?
Yes. I have the first third of Distant Shores nearly finished at this point, so I've got some time to sit down and complete the other story. I got a little discouraged for a while there, along with writing a fic for The Most Dangerous Game contest.

High King
Right, but the title's largely ceremonial in the present. You have no more power than the the average Jarl of another kingdom, and for now, you only rule over Eas,the former capitol of the Empire. However, High King Grasl's health is failing and the young Crown Princess is ambitious . . .

In conclusion, this'll be a long-winded, worldbuilding and character-development heavy story. Honestly, I have you to blame for this story; my love for adventure was rekindled in full by Across the Sea.

Also, looks like it'll have the small audience of Across the Sea as well . . .

"Still . . ." Prism muttered. "An earth pony and the poorest magicking unicorn in Equestria, in the East?"

My thoughts exactly. Seems kinda irresponsible from Twilight.
Then again, her mentor Celestia had the habit of sending her and her friends ( a bunch of civilians) to epic quest against monsters, evil sorcerers and mad gods. I guess Twilight thinks it´s how things are done.

4683081 Don't worry, those thoughts will be addressed next chapter. Featuring Twilight and Celestia, incidentally. :ajsmug:

For her race, an uncharacteristically adventurous earth pony; a unicorn with mediocre magic, and a pegasi that prefers the wheel of an airship than personal flight.

The italicized part can either be deleted entirely or moved to between "adventurous" and "earth". The bolded semicolon should be a comma. The underlined should be "pegasus" not the plural "pegasi".

Still, it sounds interesting and I'll give it a shot. I'll leave another comment with any thoughts I have once I'm done, which might be much later since I have plans for today.

4683266 Fixed thank you. Figures, I screw up the description . . .

A true adventure story, grand in scale and scope.

I'll bite that hook.

4687788 Aye, I see what you're getting at. Bonus chapters are a blend of extra worldbuilding for the readers and extra character development for other characters besides the main three. Definitely experiments, they also only get released in tandem with normal chapters. They don't take anything away from the story proper, hopefully.

Ideally, once I'm finished, you could read this whole story and skip all the bonus chapters without missing anything about the journey of Shores, Prism, and one other.

Okay, read this last night and just now got around to commenting. It definitely has my attention and I'll give it a favorite to stick with it.

The only thing that really stuck out as being bad was that Distant Shore's introductory scene felt a little contrived at points. Especially the bit where she has to empty her bags. I almost rolled my eyes at how forced that whole part felt.

But I don't have a good suggestion on how to make it feel more natural. Maybe have her spill the bag in her outrage?

Anyway, I am looking forward to any future updates.

"Wait," Twilight exclaimed, "she doesn't have magic! She can't possibly understand the context of you actions!"

Griphons have magic, like pegasi. That´s why they can fly and sit on clouds. :facehoof:

4794406 I based them off of the numbers of the great imperial war between Hapsburg Spain and the Ottoman Empire, incidentally in the same time period as Across the Sea. I've been reading up on the long-running conflict recently, and it's definitely a break from the makeshift wars of the Medieval times. Now we've got real logistics capabilities. There'll be far more explanations and worldbuilding even about the troops and levy system in the future, there's more depth to be had yet.

Oh, and at least it isn't Tom Clancy's Ebola Zaire. I keep catching myself thinking that IRL Ebola is air-borne.

Let me tell you why you'll never be accepted if you build an embassy here. In your country, the citizens tolerate a flaming swamp and carnivorous hybrids in the middle of their produce routes in the name of balance and harmony. In our land, such dangers, if unable to be turned to our benefit, are simply wiped away. - Letter of High King Fearj of the Griffon Empire to Princess Celestia of Equestria

Amen, brother. AMEN!

So, Just checking with anyone who reads this, even if it's nobody, does ANYBODY really believe that, should Celestia And Luna die, be imprisoned without access to magic, or just sleep in for too long, the sun and moon will STOP?

Maybe it will if they're imprisoned or sleep in, but the Deaths of two Alicorns shouldn't LITERALLY keep the earth from turning, and also, WHY DOES THE GRIFFON CONTINENT GIVE A DAMN ABOUT WHAT SOME EQUESTRIANS ARE DOING ON THEIR CONTINENT?

Ahem, anyways. Good story, man. Good story.

And I just realized that this is unfinished. Dammit, I was looking forward to it.
