"I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens." —Woody Allen

E

Bored one evening, Discord suggests to Celestia that they spice things up by seeing who's best at doing the other's job: he'll handle keeping things harmonious, and she'll be there to throw a big ol' spoonful of chaos into the mix whenever she feels like it. To his surprise, she agrees to do it. He's certain he's got this one in the bag—after all, how hard can something as boring as harmony be?

He shouldn't have underestimated his opponent.

Now that's comedy right there, it had everything needed including a nice bit of romance there at the end.

honsatly i wopuld have hoped discord one by introdusing Celstia to the advased statistics of choas and understanding the infenet propiltys of what wnen and who times by inffinty to the squer of infinty times the propbily of said event to said person, when and what

well written and enjoyable. Good job.

You should have known better than to raise a bet centered around chaos with The Great and Powerful Trollestia. :trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia:

Supremely enjoyable, but what was with that part at the end?
I don't see how the Spike & Rarity scene was connected to the rest at all. :rainbowhuh:

3947976
Couldn't have said it better myself

3948105
Such poor grammar, allow me to fix that for you...

Honestly, I would have hoped Discord won by introducing Celestia to the advanced statistics of chaos, by understanding the infinite probabilities of what, when and/or who times infinity to infinity squared, times the probabilities of said event to said person, by another person or them self, what and/or when...

Much better.

I don't understand that part at the end with Spike and Rarity.

But, the rest was funny and real enjoyable.

3949644 it was just discord returning to his regular business. Or so I think.

finally a proper celestia, one who does joke around a bit but doesn't over kill it.
you nailed her NotARealPonydotcom, you nailed her.

Actually, that's where the misfired spell from Discord's attempt at lowing the sun went, I believe at least. Hopefully the author can confirm this. Also, this story was very good, made me giggle like crazy. :pinkiehappy:

That was brilliant! :rainbowlaugh:

Fun story. One nitpick:
Actually, now that I've it over,
Perhaps you meant "I've thought it over", or something similar. I would personally have said "now that I think about it", but the other construction is just as valid.

o.o the like number was 59, then I liked, and it turned to 99. aaaaannyways, I didn't understand the last part..

An enjoyable little story, and also rather timely with both St. V's Day and Opposite Day.

It did have to read a few comments before getting the relevance of the last scene. I couple of extra descriptive words might have helped tie it to Discord's misfire.

Also, am I reading too much into this... or did Discord lower Celestia's -son-?

3948600 That was Discord's misfire reaching them.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH:rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia::trollestia:

Amazing:pinkiehappy:! Discord actually lost it there:pinkiecrazy:.

"Actually, now that I've it over, that does sound quite a bit like something you'd do."

Just one small error I noticed. Very good story all in all.

Trollestia vs Discord. Who would have thought the troll would have won:rainbowlaugh:

3950114 As 3950282 said to 3948600, it's Discords misfire reaching them.

Wasn't there a Comedy tag? I don't get it.

Yeah, have fun with that completely worthless backscratcher, Celestia. You've truly earned it.

You challenged Trollestia to bring chaos?:trollestia:

3950282;3949903
You could say he got hit with the brick.

3949903 Well that does make A ton more sense.

I don't get the final scene.:rainbowhuh:

While the concept of this story is nice, I don't think the story itself actually works as well as it could. The two main characters are OOC (and with someone as unpredictable as Discord, that's saying something)-- Discord's being whiny and Celestia's being impatient. I just couldn't picture the characters saying what you're having them say. Also, a lot of readers are confused by that end segment with Spike and Rarity. They aren't making the connection you intended. It might be better if you moved it closer to the connection so people can tell what's going on.

This story, with its premise, has so much wasted potential. Your description led me to believe we'd see Discord trying in vain to rule Equestria and put up with bureucracy while Celestia engaged in Trollestia shenanigans. What I got instead is a brief segment of Celestia playing mind games with him for a minute or two.

3951693
It was the aftermath of the lightning bolt of magic that Discord sent out over the balcony when he was trying to set the sun but it set Spike into the ground.

Dear Readers,

My apologies for the confusing ending. I understand that it really seems forced into the story, and I'm glad that so many of you pointed it out to me. I'll be sure to remember this with future works. Thanks.

whats with the spike rarity scene at the end must have run out of material

Celestia at her finest: subtle action, minimum effort, maximum effect. I love fics that characterize her right. No matter how adorkable Luna is, Celestia is still best Princess :trollestia:

And as others have pointed out, that last part was Discord's magic release reaching them. Instead of lowering the Sun it lowered poor Spike. Into the ground. Poor guy can't catch a break even in fanfics.

3948105
Are these even words?

3952435 Honestly, I would have hoped Discord won by introducing Celestia to the advanced statistics of chaos, by understanding the infinite probabilities of what, when and/or who times infinity to infinity squared, times the probabilities of said event to said person, by another person or them self, what and/or when...

3952253 I'm not saying it was confusing but it might have been received better if you suck it in somewhere in the paragraph. From a storyboard perspective it works well as an ending scene but with a written work I believe it needed moved around a bit.

Celestia watched the bolt vanish into the distance, then turned to watch the draconequus tear about her chambers. The smile on her face grew wider with every word she heard from his mouth:

Ended the paragraph at distance and then added the Spike/Rarity gag. Bare in mind that I'm not that good an author so take the advise with a grain of salt.
Ether way I enjoyed the bit and was glad it was there just the same.

well done i liked it and the ending was nice i admit after reading it i went back to make sure the "subjects" where plural :moustache:. i could see this happening easy enough. go :trollestia:hehe. i thought it was a nice little one shot. it was a easy connection to make at the end. all in all just have double check the old pluralness to make sure im not seeing more brilliants then there is.

3952438

Understanding the infinite intricacies of chaos makes it ordered. If you can catalog it, it's not chaos. If you can list it out, it's not chaos. Left on its own, chaos can become order.

The ending scene could just mention the yellow lightning magic Discord threw off and it'd click for most people.

I'm the 300th "like" for this story. Thought that'd be worth mentioning :pinkiehappy:.
The Rarity and Spike scene at the end was confusing; it took me a good long while to realize its relevance to the plot.
Besides that, this was a lovely Trollestia fic :trollestia:

3952826 in th end choas is more compelx then order for it has exseted longer

u wat meight?

Ah, a fellow translator of nigh-incomprehensible babble. Well done, sir.

3953175
Why think you, I try my best.

3952936

You don't really understand what entropy and chaos is, do you? xD Nevermind, go on thinking what you want.

Probably one of those "chaos and darkness and evil is SO KEWL the best" kids anyway.

I would actually love to see this with more chapters it was that good:rainbowlaugh:

Such a pity that it ended so soon. While the gag worked, it barely scratched the surface.

3953429 I do have to aggree! I would like to have seen more of this... Perhaps keep it going? Or maybe make another chapter where instead of discord being willing to give up still wants to keep on with the bet.. I'd like to see more of this it would be quite exciting!

3953331

Discord really isn't the "Lord of Chaos" either. He's capricious and random, but he, himself, is too ordered and lucid to hold that distinction. (Much less anyone even being able to lord over true chaos). I may not be well-versed in the official views on chaos, but I see true chaos as everything and anything happening at once without regard to anything else that is happening, therefore nothing can really exist. Discord is definitely not that.

3953865 Therefore, Chaos is the purest form of the Schrodinger equation?
