At the risk of sounding a bit too self-promotional, I'd strongly recommend reading the rest of the series as well - there's a few ongoing subplots through the series and recurring jokes, not to mention some recurring characters and character development.

I quite like it - it's my first proper roleplay, to be perfectly honest - but I think that it can get a bit silly at times (although that could be a side-effect of my DM trying to be flexible). It's definitely very fun though, and I would certainly recommend it.

This reminds me of a comic book I used to read called "Knights of the dinner table". When Octavia started getting dice-hungry, I started hearing "White and nerdy" by weird al in my mind. I'm loving this so far.

Ah! Good ol' DM threats. Vinyl is so naive as to try to oppose the DM from the get-go. xD Any of my friends would have probably killed my character off right there. xD
I don't get anything because the only tabletop games I can play are chess and chequers.
i love the way this story is going youre like a DM creating a world except its a fanfic and 200% better in creation
i find bribing the DM works much better then threats. but so many time during our campaigns do me and my friends get sidetrack. Our DM now brings a judges gavel to bang to get our attention.
I'm so glad I wasn't drinking anything when Vinyl said what her first action in the jungle was.

I've had ideas for more stories, but I'd need to brainstorm them, and there's always the chance that I'll decide that I don't like an idea after all and scrap the story. No idea how many more I'll do at this point, but I quite enjoy writing the Vinyl and Octavia Series, so rest assured, I'll definitely write more.

I particularly remember one session where as a punishment we had to fight an army of lieutenants.... us to them : Three rolls of 19 and above to wound. Them: two rolls of ten and above to OS.... what a epic fight it was

The DM could always have just used a random pair of jungle animals for a first encounter, tossing the statues was a bit much and might turn Viynl off the game for good. The Hydras were definitely over kil on Natural 20's part. And Viny's problem with the high cost of her actions is something I try to avoid, I always try to have one useful attack I can use because it will usually hit and does something useful or does more damage in any game I'm playing.

Now, the trick is to keep the hat, then give it as a "peace offering" to a creature you hate and laugh as they suddenly catch on fire for extra damage before you finish them off. Conversely, if you know a creature healed by fire, the hat becomes a valuable treasure and great gift. SO KEEP THE HAT!!!!

Or she'll rattle off an explanation for why a trap involving sonics works the way it does and everyone will be sitting through a Twilight style lecture. And Octavia's character will always get molested by monsters, tied up by spells in interesting positions, and fail saves against effects that would have her do something Vinyl finds sexy.

I was honestly hoping for a "Who would cross the Bridge of Death must answer me these questions three, ere the other side he see!" type scenario. Got to love Monty Python. And I could have seen Vinyl having fun with the questions and finding ways to trick the bridge keeper.

I meant for this chapter to mostly take place in the village, but I ended up spending too much time on the bridge, so I decided to rename the chapter, and this was the best title I could think of. So if the intention for this chapter from the start had been for it to be all at the bridge, I definitely would have done a riff on that. I'll hopefully find a way to put it into a later chapter.

Though I personally thought she'd go for 'Seduce the chieftess into a threesome' or something that would have Natural Twnety's jaw on the floor and him running off to 'take care of things' at the idea. And he should learn if the players find a creative way to jump off the tracks you laid for them, don't try to force them back on, jump over to the new tracks and roll with it!!!! I once had some smart players cancel out a line of sight spell by closing a door and simply sighed and said, "Good move, I didn't think of that." before proceeding to get slaughtered.

I realise that the railroading is a little overdone, but the way I figure it it's more fun to have Natural Twenty as a controlling DM who won't let his players do anything fun lest they go off the rails and do something he hasn't planned for. And besides, who hasn't thought of a great scenario in a roleplay only to have the party avoid it or not encounter it?

I was planning to go to bed about four hours ago. Then I made the mistake of reading 'just one chapter' about ponies adventuring in the Amarezon jungle. Needless to say, I didn't get to sleep when I wanted to.
Absolutely loving these stories, especially this one. While I've never actually played one of these games and am surely missing most of the jokes, I am still laughing more from each chapter than I usually do in a month. And the puns! So many puns.
On an entirely unrelated note, how does a new player get into roleplaying games? I've been curious about it for years but I don't know anyone else who plays.

Unfortunately, you really need to know someone else who plays, or convince some of your friends to join you in exploring the world of roleplaying. I'm lucky to have found a friend who's been playing tabletop roleplaying games for years, so he was happy to introduce me to them and drag me into his Pony Tales campaign. I'd say that if you want to get into them your best bet is to try and convince your friends to play along with you.
