nice bit of world building
Ear mites?
What has he been doing that ear mites are an issue.
Giselle for best gryphon.
Huh. I'd thought he'd have scratches from a griffon.
7459503
I had originally planned on there being bit in there about him having some pretty good welts on his back, but never really found a way to work it in.
There may be a ninja edit later.
Word of the day: Good
7459422
Most likely:
Sleeping for extended periods of time (several hours) in the same bed as a mare (or mares) who had ear mites when they slept together.
7459422 I'd say his bedding is going to need a good spray-down too. They spread the same way fleas and lice do.
...Out of curiosity, am I the only one who thought it was a bad sign when I read "Doctor Frost Hooves"?
Also, ear mites seems like an odd thing to get since I would expect them to be rapidly eradicated from an urban population like this.
7459714
You could say the same thing about lice, but there are professional lice removal services in New York.
7459520
Who says all griffons need to be the bitey, scratchy, type anyway?
Yay, update!
It isn't ear mites. It is changeling eggs. They get EVERYWHERE. Like caviar.
7459422
Don't think I've ever seen mention of the more mundane types of world building such as common pests. Kinda makes it all seem third world...
I'd assume unicorns have it better, using magic to sanitize their bedding. And Pegasi beds wouldn't have such trouble since they're vaporous water anyway, heh.
Oh, walking around nude. For a little while it wouldn't be bad but sunburning the tender bits would remind a person why they wear clothes for a reason. Same for shoes/sandals, that one tiny sharp rock will find your sole and stab at you with all the hate it can muster like a stony David versus it's Goliath. Kids out in the country and rural places learn this life lesson quick, hopping around at the threshold of tears or swearing prodigiously-- and more than once for the die-hard lazy types such as myself, heh.
(My childhood house in the Northeast has one of those coarse gravel-concrete driveways that was exceptionally painful to walk across, even after weeks of 'toughening up' youthful feet)
7460008 You win the award for most random.
I now charge you with writing a story about ponies finding Changeling eggs unbelievably delicious.
7460336 Here's an excerpt, unedited:
“Weeell, that's mighty kind of her.” Applejack managed, as she chewed on the sandwich, absently pressing her hoof to the side of it to help it in. “But I was actually hopin' to….”
Her sentence was cut off, eyes slowly widening to almost saucer-like proportions. Her pupils dilated, and one could almost sense a sparkling star passing them by, swirling around her eyelids as she grew eerily quiet.
“Sis, what's wrong?”
AJ didn't respond. She didn't even blink. In fact, the only thing she did do was slowly push her hoof against the crumbling bread, pushing the rest of it into her mouth… followed shortly after by the entire lower half of her leg.
“Ooh, ooh! Are you tryin' ta see how far ya can get that in your mouth? Me and the rest of the CMC did that once when we were goin' for our circus-related cutiemarks, cuz we weren't wanting to use swords and all, and-”
The little farmpony slowly trailed off, as she realized her sister still hadn't blinked. Or answered her in any way, simply staring off into the distance. She breathed a sigh of relief as her sister finally exhaled, but looked wary once more as Applejack's head slowly swiveled to face her, uttering:
“Go get a hoe.”
7460214 I know the feeling, and yet, everybtime I leave something in my car, I always say to myself, 'it can't be that bad'
Then I walk out there and swear to never walk on gravel without shoes again.
A few days later: 'it can't be that bad'
I'm hoping he decides to splurge a bit and try to find someone to print up some WW1 lozenge pattern camouflage. Red is alright but just for something different. I suggest printed for the same reason the Germans used printed camo cloth instead of painted, the printed fabric was lighter than the painted.
http://wwiaviation.blogspot.com/p/camouflage-corner_04.html
( think I like the A.E.G. 5-color hex pattern the best.)
7464622
Ha! You have to love that camouflage. I'm a mild Great War enthusiast, always happy to see someone bring up the more obscure stuff.
I tell you though, there's no way I'd fly an airplane painted like that. It's hard enough seeing other planes as is. Last thing I'd want is to get clipped by another aircraft as I'm coming into pattern. It's bad enough I almost hit a hawk once. If the window had been open, I could have grabbed him. I sware he gave me the a WTF look.
Okay man, first thing you do when you get back to Rose is ask for another doctor, 'cause anyone named Doctor Frost Hooves is someone you do not want to be near. Especially if he's not in front of you, and or is carrying a thermometer.
7465583 Well, in that case, we have his assistant, Doctor Lukewarm-and-slightly-clammy Hooves instead
7563699
And that's why you'll never hear me mention carpet. Equestria is a land of hardwood and stone flooring. Rugs occasionally, but it's rude to sit your plot on them.
7564074
So, the entire throne room must be carpeted. For hoof comfort, of course!
Still, it was funny thinking about how blasé that scene seemed. I know I'd be a little miffed if my friend's date was smearing my friend's leftovers on the kitchen floor. Also, the Hitchhiker's Guide's suggestion of always maintaining a towel now has a whole new meaning.
7565652
It just occurred to me. Some poor pony is responsible for mopping around The House. I may have to work that into a chapter.
7566250
Some of my favorite scenes are with random background OC's! Wall-repair pony... Plumber mare... General fixer-upper and local newsmare pony...
And now, cum-mopping pony! I can't wait!
7461083
And thus, Applebloom went and fetched Rarity.
Pretty good thus far, Looking forward to seeing his relationship with a griffon :3 It's cute that she purrs ^^
7580913
I should be back to writing on this soon. Got distracted with another story, and had a bit of writers block at the same time.
7581009 Glad to hear it :) Writer's block always sucks hard... I've tried it a couple of times XD I got over it by sitting down and forcing myself to write, but i'm sure you have your own method ^^
Anyway, good luck with it and I look forward to seeing more Shane adventures XD
edit: btw, if your other story is Strange Gifts, then definitely keep going on that as well XD It's also good ;)
7580277 I totally forgot about that story. It is probably lying around someplace on my drive or something. I'm still pondering doing it at some point but I'm terrible with follow-through.
That was amazing but short. RIP my sleep schedule 4:47-8:10 AM.
7582500
Wait, what?
What story?
7710792 Exactly. It never got finished (turns out I have ADHD, which I found out shortly after writing that little excerpt).
Basic gist of the story: A female changeling helps Applejack out at the farm, but spreads their changeling eggs everywhere. Applejack cleans it all up, but gets some on her hoof, then gets handed a sandwich a short bit later by Applebloom as lunch since she was so busy working. The eggs get on the sandwich from the hoof, Applejack eats it, and then the magic happens.
7711006 Futurama did it :'D
7716899
Oops. Typos. Thanks, I'll fix those later.
"Wide Berth" is an old sailing term, meaning to keep distance.
7716910 Oh well, TIL.
Very enjoyable read, i'm eager to read more
7842356
Not usually. It's mostly down to weight: has to weight less than 254lbs.
Having just reread this yet again, I still adore Giselle and Shane together. All of my <3
7881548
Hopefully, new chapters will start showing up in a week or so. I have a date planned for those two in a few chapters.
Despite the oddity of it, I very much enjoyed this chapter. It gives the story a more 'real' feel.
