Good Job, your story seems well-developed and to have a direction. I can't find anything about the story to criticize. If I had to come up with something it would be that you had the changeling girl say "bucking" a bit too much. So, great job and keep writing.

3656261 All right, your answer, dear reader.
It's the alchemy of personas, as I like to call it. The way a character interacts with another character or with his/her environment is almost completely dependent on personality and characteristics. So, to answer your question, I'll have to unravel the blueprints of both Caleb and Satin and the scene you're referring to.
First and foremost, the capability to detect fear (and other emotions) is a rather common natural instinct in the wild, so we can assume that Satin, thanks to her animal-like qualities, subliminally knows that Caleb is just as wary, if not more, of Satin than she is of him.
Now, keep in mind that both Satin and Caleb share a very distinct quality: they are both very instinct driven, prone to acting before thinking. However, Satin acts on emotion while Caleb acts on muscle.
So when Caleb knocked out that batpony, he was hardly thinking at all and acting purely out of self-defense. Seeing their companion taken out Caleb, the other two ponies flee because they're aware that Caleb sees them as threats due to their affiliation with the fallen batpony. Satin, on the other hand was sitting away from the fray and therefore, whether she knows it or not, is not going to be attacked by Caleb the instant he sees her.
You see, another crucial part of this is Caleb's non-confrontational personality. No matter how freaked out he becomes, two stages of defense exist for him: defensive and offensive, and though they are still driven by instinct, Caleb is not going to stike unless attacked first. If he isn't physically assaulted or threatened first, he's going to turtle shell, especially in this situation, where he wants notning to do with anything around him.
And this ties in with Satin. I've already covered the detecting fear, emotional instinct, and the fact that she did not attack Caleb when he first saw her. So, when she sees her carefully thought-out plan fall to pieces when some random creature appears and takes out her targets for her, the first thing she's going to do, regardless of the situation, is speak her mind. She is pissed, and so the world must know. Her tantrum at first is not even directed at Caleb, which makes him even less inclined to start a fight. Maybe she doesn't see him, right?
So, this is what we have: A scared and confused Caleb who wants nothing to do with these creatures and wishes they would go away, and a flustered, angry, and equally confused Satin who didn't get what she wanted and now must blame someone or something. Caleb's brain starts functioning again, though very slowly, and asks no one in particular to please take him home. Satin, still in rant mode, takes offense to this and, at first wants him to get lost, but then realizes that she can make his life even more miserable by imprisoning him.
Now, remember, Satin isn't thinking this through. Also remember, Caleb 1) doesn't want to start a fight, and 2) wants and needs a place to stay.
So, as to why Satin doesn't seem afraid of him, she acts first and thinks second, and as to why Caleb doesn't sock her in the face, while he does hate the creatures, he doesn't want to get into more fights with them. I hope this answers your question.

He's just kinda scared and confused at the moment, and definitely not in the mental state to be thinking ahead. In fact, Caleb's not the kind of guy to think ahead as it is, and is also naturally non confrontational, so I don't think climbing the ranks is what he wants.
