Naturally, you would use books to build a fortress or as a shield. Hardcover or not, a book might come in handy if you need something to bite on. Oh, and they are often used as a fan though, I don't know If that works with hooves.

(Bad) books are very good coasters. I like to recommend bad books to people I dislike, that's pretty unconventional.
