From what I understand, your Rainbow Dash doesn't know Spike or Twilight personally, and neither does she have connections to Celestia via all that Elements of Harmony stuff from the show. So it would seem that [Alternate Universe] tag is a must here.

I like the general idea (and I'm eager to learn how did Rainbow become a detective and why is AJ considered a criminal), but I would strongly recommend double-checking your grammar (with proofreader/editor or by yourself), mostly because you tend to switch tenses from present (I assure him, trying to keep my tone formal.) into past (I did not ask to be stuck with the dragonsitting duty whilst my colleagues searched for evidence.). Choose one (past seems more appropriate) and stick to it.

There is a lot of work to be done with your story, but hey, keep writing and you'll get there eventually.
