Queen Gaea, mother to Celestia and Luna, has sensed many disturbances over the past few years. She worries about the kingdom she left to her daughters so long ago, and sets out to reunite with them. Her mate, Poseidon, worries for Gaea's safety, and sets out after her. However, things don't go as planned, and dark forces are inadvertently set in motion that threaten the peace of Equestria and the lands beyond.

Also, this raises the question of "where are the other alicorns?" Being that Poseidon may have come from a different family and Gaea may have come from another. Unless you're using Greco-Roman theories of the creation of the gods.

711227 It is the book left behind in the dungeons when Gaea escape Discord's prison in 'Darkness' containing all of her thoughts. I left it to the imagination what was in those last few pages that Celestia thought would help to convince Luna to return home.
