I'd like to begin by apologising to all of you for breaking my long silence with such a disappointing message, and especially to D48, who has spent months going over plans and drafts for the second version with me. I've promised a lot and delivered very little, and I'm very sorry for that.
It's been quite some time since I last posted anything regarding this story, and for the past few months I've been hard at work mapping out the story and nailing down all its background and world building, with the help of D48, who I've been bouncing ideas off of, and who's served to give some useful feedback on my first drafts of the opening chapters. There's only so much planning you can do, though, and whilst I'll be away on a week's holiday from Saturday, I intend to start properly pushing
Whilst the new version is still a little way off of being on site (I want to have a buffer of a few chapters before submitting this time, to try and avoid the ungodly waits from last time) I thought that since I'm making a good few changes from the first version to this one, you might appreciate something of a run-down of how it's going to be.
Plot:
After a lot of thought, I've decided to cancel Guilty Hornet. It just wasn't working and it got too far from the core premise to easily bring it back. I'll be leaving it on the site for posterity's sake, but I won't be updating it.
So, I've just updated the story's status as 'On Hiatus', and I think you are all owed at least an explanation as to why I've chosen to do this.
So, I'm not dead (famous last words) and neither is the story, despite how lifeless it (and I) have been in past months. I've done some thinking, and I'm going to be changing quite a few things for the overall betterment of the story.
In short:
- The planned chapters 5 and 6 (memory/flashback chapters) are being cut entirely. They aren't working and they won't do so anytime soon.
Hello again. It's been a while, and I'm sorry to say that progress has been pretty marginal at best. It turns out that writing a bunch of scenes, each with its own timeframe and context to be explained, is really tiring after the first few. On top of that, Five was supposed to be in two full-length parts, which has been looking like an increasingly poor idea as time has gone on and progress has slowed to a snail's pace.
Revised chapter is uploaded. Give it a read and tell me what you think; I'll still be responding to your messages even in Australia.
I know I said it'd be close, but I didn't realise it would be this close. I'll be leaving for the airport in a minute, so this is Zombificus, signing off.

Even after having put Chapter 5 aside until I have the time to do it justice and focusing on finishing Chapter 4B instead, I am still working on the rewrite right now. I've been at this one for months, but there's still a major section left to go even after I spent most of today working on it. It'll be done before I leave, but I'll be running very low on time if I want to give this the editing sweep it deserves, so expect a late one.
On Saturday I will be leaving for Australia, where I'll be on holiday for three weeks. Since writing on my phone is a nightmare and my only computer is a desktop, my ability to write, let alone edit, will be greatly reduced. Here's where this gets slightly more relevant to you:
Although I have been busy these past weeks, and will continue to be so for the next month, I've still been working on Guilty Hornet.
As I said I was going to, I put the rewrite of chapter four to one side for a little bit and started on the next chapter instead; but I've also run into a little more resistance writing that than I would've expected. It's not full on writer's block, but it is harder than usual to get across what I'm trying to write, so progress on that has been slow as well.
Rewriting Chapter 4 is taking a while, partly due to the amount of changes being made complicating matters, and partly due to the much lower motivation fixing something has when compared with creating something new. I'd planned to have it up on the site days - nearly weeks - ago, but whilst I am making progress, it is of the slow and steady variety.
I have become a lot more drowned in work lately, and it is very likely that that will continue to be the case for the next month or two, given the circumstances. In six weeks I have the final exams for my AS-level qualifications, and if I do not pass them well enough (or at all) it could seriously impact not only what I can study next year, but also whether or not I can get onto the university course I want, as well as what jobs I'll be able to get further on in life.
Okay, definitely the last post for this chapter, and just a very brief heads-up.
Another of these little update posts, hopefully the last I'll need to make for Chapter Four.
I've been unable to use my internet for the last few days and as such have not made much progress on next chapter. I've just logged back onto FimFic after my unintended hiatus to find 15 updates from stories I'm tracking, which is doing its part to entice me into reading and not writing, but I am stronger than that so I shall persevere. One upside of being temporarily unable to write is that I had no excuse not to sit down and think about where the story is going, so with a bit of luck part two
I have a problem. Well, multiple problems actually: chapter length, chapter quality and time until upload to be specific. I need a little advice on how to proceed here, so I'm going to explain my problems one by one and hopefully one of you can provide a bit of guidance.
I was doing the final read-through and edit of the chapter before publishing and decided that I didn't much like the way I'd written the conversation with Celestia, so the chapter's on hold while I redo that. I haven't yet had the time to edit the preceding chapters all the way through, so that may be a while longer as well. It's gone midnight where I am, so I'm going to catch some sleep now, but I'll be back to work on the chapter tomorrow and will hopefully have finished it by this time
As the title says, Chapter Four is nearly completed, although I still have a few short scenes to write, and with a bit of luck it will be up on FimFic by tomorrow, along with the edited first three chapters.
It's been one hell of a week, but we're on the final straight now. As usual, if you have any questions leave a comment and I'll answer them as soon as I can.
