The worst time to test your multi-tiered backup scheme is when you need to, and only by a bit of luck and irony, I escaped a test I didn't study for.

I just recently acquired a copy of Scrivener on discount and I'm in the process of learning how to use it. It's nice to have project manager software with built-in versioning and an easily accessible chapter list and notes instead of trying to manage everything in separate google docs. I may end up further subdividing the next chapter for faster release and easier scene editing. I'm ballparking about a mid-February release, but as usual, I make no guarantees.
Scrivener is a neat piece of writing software. One one hand, its basic functionality is simple--it's like an alternate directory system for your computer that lets you write a 3 x 5 notecard to label each directory. That's only, like, 1% of what Scrivener does, but it's 95% of why I use it. Arguably you could achieve the same thing by writing a program like Windows Explorer that could display a big text box for each directory.
Blar. Had yesterday off. Woo! Though it was grey and rainy all day and I accomplished ... very little. Not as woo.
However, in a show of ostensible preparation for NanoWriMo (which I will probably still fail but still, effort!) I went ahead and downloaded a free trial of Scrivener last night. I've been poking around at it for a little bit, though I haven't gone and written anything just yet. And, uh, I'm procrastinating writing by posting about it here. Woo!
It's been a while since I last updated either of the stories I'm currently posting, so I thought a short 'update' was in order.
I read Gentleman for Mares (NSFW!) and it inspired YET ANOTHER PONE STORY in the fertile folds of my grey matter. Trying to write notes for characters, sequences, plot points, etc. in GDocs was killing me.
I am doing a bear tasting and a blog posting. Forgive if this post is slurred. I didn't drop my phone.. As Lightweight. Definitely drink. Wife drove. Made a voice recording because I need this as a write. First time drunk. Need to add I'm 63 so this is landmark. The El Cap IPA and Firefall Ted are spektaculer.
Say you were casting around for a new project (I could do more work on Blueblood but he colonized my entire brain all last month and we need some time apart RN). Say you like writing shipfic. And say Gwen Hayes' Romancing the Beat is one of your favorite structure books, but you can never remember the beats. Say you also like Scrivener.
I've been writing using Scrivener for over two weeks now. Like many products, it has its own unique issues like cursor selection on the iPad and iPhone failing in all sorts of unique and special ways. (I can work around it easily, so I will report it in due time.) There is a learning curve compared to using a WYSIWYG editor like Pages, Word, or Google Docs. You should commit yourself to the tutorial that comes with it. If you need an integrated development environment for writing novels,
Travel preparations for TrotCon and BronyCon made at last.
An on-going part of the preparations is reminding my manager and coworkers that I'll be completely unavailable on those days. I mean it. Yes, really, really unavailable.
You're just going to have to accept that this is a word, now, Scrivener.
Whenever EQD posts conventions, I like to pop them into the calendar and set an alert for six weeks or a month prior to the date. Not that I plan to do everything or go everywhere, but if the opportunity arose, I would like to have enough time. So far, Trotcon and BronyCon are the only pony events I've attended. Ciderfest and EFNW are still on my list. At one point, BUCK was a possibility, if I renewed my passport and could score a cheap flight, but it disappeared before I could make it
