So, here's the deal: my mind tends to shoot in hundreds of directions at once and sometimes, just sometimes, that allows me to create a story. It usually means that I update slowly because at any given time I have a dozen projects going on.
I felt like checking in even though there's not actually anything new to say. Here goes:
The most common question I get asked these days is whether or not this or that fic is dead. No. Nope, it's not. That, however, isn't quite as good news as it might at first seem to be.

It would be nice to believe that the reason that I care about the treatment of people with mental illness is because I'm a good person with a big heart and . . . so forth. I'd like to it's something like that instead of something inherently selfish. But there is a potential reason that's inherently selfish.
As of about two-and-a-half days ago, the FimFiction user Lunar Dusk announced in The Shameless Self-Promotion Bureau's group a promotion for a blog post he or she recently made. Hyperlinked in the forum post was the blog post itself, which was apparently titled "It's been a while," but the blog now apparently does not exist or is invisible, for it returns
The pace at which people update here is just . . . I can't even. When someone writes a whole story before releasing a single chapter then, sure, I can see how that story would go up quickly. But when someone's posting as they go, pausing to proofread and such, even at my best I'd never be making content at the speeds I've been seeing.
I'm not at my best.
While talking with Pete100 on Dripfeed, they brought up a question I've been wondering for a while; what is the continuity I started with The Gifts of Gaea called? And now, thanks to my discussion with them, I have an answer.
I finally have an outline I'm happy with, after more than a year of working on this story.
Of course, in the process, I seem to have increased the total expected chapter count from 14 to 19, and increased the length by about 50%, but there will be a lot more action, more feels, and more setting Fluttercruel's house on fire. (No, she's not in it at the time. Neither are the animals.)
There are fics I am working on (in a different fandom) that I have been working on since 1993.
I have a lot of unfinished fics. I have only ever acknowledged 3 of them to be permanently cancelled. Two of them, because I finally admitted to myself that I was never returning to that fandom again. One of them, because I took the OC out of it and made her the main character of an original novel, so I pretty much can't keep using her in fanfic.

The third chapter of Last Draconequus is done and up, clocking in at almost 17000 words. I had expected 10000. Someday I will figure out how to accurately pre-estimate my word count...
I have added Progress Bars to all of my incomplete stories. They're based on my outlines and notes, so nothing about them is encoded in stone -- if I estimate there are 22 chapters to a story, it may turn out there are 25 once I write them all -- but they're based on my best estimates at this time. I also noted whether chapters were completed, tightly outlined (line by line outlining), loosely outlined (I have a paragraph description of what happens in the chapter) or not outlined (I have a

There are some fic writers who create an awesome setting. Naturally, this may result in other ficcers writing recursive fanfiction or fanfics from that setting. The polite thing to do is ASK FIRST. Maybe it is to stop the flood of horrible fics that derail carefully planned out development, maybe it's a test to see who is prepared for the original author to say "no". I don't know and I don't care.

Griff tore through the woods, taking his anger out on the trees that he passed. He finally stopped and hunched over, stabbing at the dirt with his hoof. He glared at the ground.

As the title says, I was wondering; there's a long story I have planned in addition to The Song of the Spheres, one in a different continuity. Should I finish the Song before starting another big project, or should it be fine to have two ongoing series at the same time?

While I've written some stuff that takes place in the future in the story and blogged it, the new chapter won't contain any of that, because we're still not there yet. After this one I'll have one short (Discord's journal entry) and one long, and then we go to the moon after that.
