I've had a lot of feedback lately on the issue of multi chapter stories being much easier to get popular than one off fics. Even if they've really short compared to some 10k word one shot that someone wrote. On the back of this, I've decided to separate the concept of new stories and updates. The featured box now works off of when you first were accepted, the same as the bar below. the "Latest Stories" on the front page also works off this, and "Latest Updates" now have their own section below

Watching: You can now watch other users! It's a bit like DA. Just click the watch button at the right hand side of the user bar to watch, and click again to stop if you want. People you're watching show up on your user page, as do people following you.

So, as you've probably just noticed, FIMFiction has been totally revamped. I've been working on this for the last week and a half and it's required essentially writing a significant portion of the site again from scratch. Part of this was to facilitate the use of a templating engine I've written, which is going to make it really easy to do a proper mobile site which has all the same functionality as the main site but for smaller screens. Just needs time.

Keep forgetting to do a new post, I'll keep this quick.

Emails: You can now choose, in your settings to receive emails when people comment on, track, or favourite your stories!

Timezones: You can select your timezone in the user settings too. Not entirely exciting I guess.

Text truncating: You'll notice long story descriptions are now truncated, a bit like youtube descriptions. The limit before it'll show the "show more" button is 400 characters.

So, I finally got around to doing this! It's definitely been a much requested feature so I hope people like it.

You'll notice there's a new option in the "My Account" section of the sidebar for messages. The number in the brackets is the number of unread messages you have. Clicking on it will take you to the inbox (as you can see above) where you can read you messages. Bold indicates new messages.

Emoticons: So the first thing I've added is emoticons in blog and story comments. They won't replace any text smileys like :), they all have somewhat verbose names in fact. Just click on one to add it to your comment!
