This story is a sequel to The Return of Midnight Sparkle

Sunset Shimmer's life has always been full of mistakes; But she rose to the occasion and kept fighting, willing to improve herself, every single time.

And now she is celebrating five years of being an Alicorn Princess-- Happily married to Twilight Sparkle. It can't get better than this, she is the happiest she's ever been.

Of course, in Equestria, there is always trouble, right around the corner. And now, a happy, fulfilled and incredibly powerful Sunset Shimmer is cursed to travel the multiverse, forced to meet other versions of herself-- Disgusted by their failures.

All she can do is keep fighting, stay strong, and hope that she can find a way back home to her love.

And maybe, just maybe, help a few Sunsets along the way.

Opaline had stolen the cutie marks from half of Equestria and was rapidly conquering the rest. Even the fake alicorn Sunny Starscout and her minions were faltering before her. One more push would bring Opaline to her final victory.

Then she surrendered.

And even Opaline doesn’t know why.

It's true, Celestia has a lot on her plate: the stewardship of Canterlot High School has recently fallen into her lap; her dear younger sister has recently started a job at the very same high school; and the details of her romantic life are... best left unsaid. Any sane individual wouldn't want to add a child to that mix, but those adorable bright blue eyes were irresistible.

Cast out of the Celestial Palace, the former Royal Student, Sunset Shimmer, is about to take life into her own hooves and seize what rightfully belongs to her, on the other side of that mysterious Mirror Portal.

Only problem is, somepony else got to the mirror, first. It's gone, vanished.
So is Celestia.

On the bright side, the new Acting Princess, Mi Amore Cadenza (or Cadance, as she likes to be called), is willing to ignore that banishment and give Sunset a second chance. She's heard the rumors about the reclusive, disobedient, and just-generally-mean Royal Student, but the Acting Princess needs all the help she can get.

So, all of a sudden, Sunset goes from being a disgraced scholar, banned from the palace grounds, to serving as a valuable asset of Princess Cadance's desperate scramble to hold the Principality of Equestria together and figure out what on Equus even happened to the Princess of the Sun.

Now, Sunset just has to avoid royally peeving off the ponies giving her a second chance: to ingratiate herself to them, even; to make herself indispensable. She can lie, cheat, and swindle like nopony else in the Celestial Palace, and it's time she used those talents for somepony other than herself.

Starting with this little project of Cadance's. The Princess needs to recruit a young group of friends to serve the Crown and Harmony, and she's already got a lead. Sunset just has to do the actual hoofwork of meeting the candidates, and then she can dust her hooves of this and go back to her studies, secure in her appointment as Royal Student.

Rated Teen for coarse horse language and various threats made to ponies' well-being.

Sunset Shimmer has never quite felt like she belonged in the human world, and today, she feels more distant from it—and more confined within it—than ever.

While exploring the decrepit remains of the Castle of Friendship, Sunny Starscout and her friends discover a strange book that might have belonged to Princess Twilight Sparkle herself. The book's contents resemble a series of letters that were apparently sent back and forth between Twilight and an unknown party.

At some point, Twilight stopped responding.

When she was in middle school, Sunset Shimmer suffered from what is called 'Middle-second syndrome'.
It is a term used to describe young teens who have grandiose delusions, and in some cases, have convinces themselves that they have secret powers.
She used to call herself 'The God Princess of Flames', an immortal being capable of manipulate fire, alienating herself from her classmates.
Finding her past embarrassing, Sunset will try everything to start her high school journey quietly after moving out from her city.
But not everything went as planned when she meets Twilight Sparkle, a girl in her class suffering from the very same syndrome, who calls herself 'The God Princess of Night'.
Sunset will do everything in her power to avoid being around that girl, but she will find it to be a difficult task since this girl literally lives next door.

On some level Celestia always understood that a ship could never really love an anchor.

For seven-year-old Sunset Shimmer, Hearthʼs Warming is the best thing to ever exist. Thereʼs excellent food, presents, songs and most importantly, Princess Celestia. Her first holiday with her mentor is bound to be the most memorable night of her little life.

For teenage Sunset Shimmer, Hearthʼs Warming is nothing but a waste of time. Time she should be spent studying and getting ahead. She doesnʼt want to spend hours at dinner, especially not with Annoying Pink Princess there. Her last holiday at the castle is one she wonʼt ever forget.

For adult Sunset Shimmer, Hearthʼs Warming is a chance to atone. After years of spending the holidays in the human realm, she finally has a chance to spend one with her mentor again. Especially after the disaster that was her last winter in Equestria. Sheʼs going to
make the most of this second chance.

A tale of love, jealousy and shifting attitudes.
