Welcome to the Contest

"When Spike goes through the Mirror Portal from Equestria to CHS, he turns into a dog. What does X turn into when X goes through the Mirror Portal (or a similar portal)? You can pick X and the direction."

Myself (Mockingbirb), I'm especially interested in changes that are less usual, not so commonplace (although I suppose very unsual treatments of the 'usual' changes can be interesting too.)

You can see some examples of different portal transformations HERE (group's front page and folders) and HERE.

If you want a new story idea, something that no one has ever written before, 'portal transformations' can provide a practically infinite number of them.

Stories should qualify under the group description on the group's front page, as either an unusual portal transformation, or at least doing something interesting and unusual with a portal transformation.

Please show off your ability to write a meaningful, funny, thought-provoking, or even just startlingly original story.

Put your contest entries in THE APPROPRIATE CONTEST FOLDER: Portal Transformations Contest I. You'll have to join the group for at least long enough to do that.

There is no limit to how many stories you can enter, or how long your story can be...but if a story bores me (or any other judge), your judge might not finish reading it.

Contest closes at the end of March 7, 2024: midnight Pacific Time (US). This time zone is used in California, Oregon, and Washington state.

If this is your first story ever on fimfiction.net and you can't get it to pass fimfiction moderation before the contest deadline, you can send me (Mockingbirb) and my fellow group admin GaPJaxie a link and password to read your story. You should do that significantly BEFORE the contest deadline, though.

I have no idea how many prizes will be awarded, or if there will be any judges other than myself.

So far as I know, the only things given to the winners might be 'honor and glory' and a bit of promotion, like being featured in the group and in my fimfiction.net blog.

No porn, please. Writing a story to NOT be M rated is its own art, and will make judging easier.

The story's first publication, whether on fimfiction.net or elsewhere, should be during the contest period beginning 3 January 2024 and ending at the 'contest closes' date and time listed above. (We have not so far made arrangements to accept entries not posted as stories on fimfiction.net.)

Authors may freely edit their stories until the 'contest closes' date and time listed above. At or after that point, any edits should be minor and should be clearly listed in the story's Author's Note or Long Description.

Clarifications and Edits

Edit 1: Your story should qualify as a story under fimfiction.net rules. For this contest, at least one side of the portal should be an MLP or Equestria Girls world, whether canon or AU or VERY AU.

Edit 2: The only MLP properties that I can pretty much guarantee judges being relatively familiar with are MLP:FiM and Equestria Girls.

I'm not sure that I understand what your idea is. If you mean, "Equestria girl visits Equestria and becomes a pony during the visit," I suppose if you're doing something sufficiently interesting and unusual with it, it at least MIGHT be allowed?

I'm not doing the girls. While the person who I use will turn into a pony, that person doesn't appeared in the EG series and only in the FiM.

There's also no fanfic interpretation of this human so it might be interesting it might be boring. But i would like to give it a try.

I suppose nearly anyone can participate. I mean, neither you nor I have to know whether your story will be judged to perfectly target the contest theme, as long as you make an honest try and there aren't any other common sense problems (violating site rules is an example of a common sense problem.)

I'm sorry I can't give you an absolutely definitive answer without knowing more, which I suppose seeing the story would help with.

Anyway, so far it sounds like it could be an interesting idea.

My story is M-rated, but there's no sex in it. In fact, I gave it that rating because of a few harsh scenes.
For example, where the main character injures himself for the sake of using magic. And so on.
I hope the rating doesn't scare you away.

I'm thinking of a story where a character becomes a mage after going through a portal and ending up on the plane of Phyrexia from Magic The Gathering. I think this fits with the contest rules because it's X going through a similar portal to the mirror portal and transforming into an elf. :)
