A year ago, you got up from your couch to grab a drink, and vanished. At least, that's what you assume people back home think. As it turns out, a one in a trillion cosmic mishap landed you face-down in a land full of magical talking horses and friendship.

You've settled in to this new world as best you can, but what are you supposed to do when familiar feelings begin bubbling toward your best friend, who happens to be one of said talking horses? Join her on a road trip, of course!

Oh, and maybe share your feelings along the way.

Almost everyone in Equestria has been mysteriously transported to a fake simulation world where everyone is closely monitored for the sake of entertainment. Because even popular side characters are not safe from prying eyes, it's up to a group of obscure, unappreciated background characters to fly under the radar and try to save their fellow Equestrians. Strawberry Sunrise was just a struggling farmer, until mysterious messages from another world caused her to question the world around her. Before she knew it, she had stumbled into a massive conspiracy which none of Equestria's usual heroes could do anything about. Only someone unexpected and seemingly insignificant can avoid detection, and unfortunately for Strawberry Sunrise, Lilly Valley, and Fiery Fricket, that means the burden of saving Equestria falls on them. But how will they stand the pressure of saving the world when they can barely stand each other?

This story is (very) loosely inspired by both The Matrix and The Truman Show, hence the title and tagging it as a crossover, though it contains characters from neither of those movies. This is also very much an experiment which I will update whenever I feel like it, or approximately once a weekish. And since this is a very versatile concept with a lot of possibilities, I'm also open to suggestions!

I don't know what I am, but I know where I am. Equestria, magical cartoon utopia. A place that's basically a dream come true.

Under the just guidance of the princesses, Equestria has prospered for thousands of years. Yet not a single soul remembers how the kingdom came to be or where its twin diarchs came from.

During a simple tea party, Princess Celestia decides to reveal the answers, causing Twilight to call into question everything she thought she knew about her mentor.

Twilight has a dark secret: she isn't satisfied with her current lot in life. Yes, she does have amazing friends that have stood by her through thick and thin, yes, she does have a supportive and kind family, and she is the student of Princess Celestia herself. But she can't shake off the feeling that she is missing out on life.

How many other sights are there to be seen, how many ponies are there to meet, how many challenges will she never face by being in Ponyville, by being Twilight Sparkle?

One day she has finally had enough and fueled by a several months long rut and scientific curiosity she decides to go through with the most insane plan imaginable in order to put her doubts to rest.

Given a unique perspective on negative emotion, less than a foal's knowledge of ordinary magic, a healthy schadenfreude, and danger bearing down on all sides, the self-proclaimed "Weiss Noir" makes no plans accounting for his death, and plans to keep it that way, even after being torn away from earth, turned into a unicorn, and dumped into one of the most inhospitable locations and times in all of Equestria.

Stranded in the Frozen North, a place where biting cold ends lives, and one thousand years in the past, in a time when peril is the norm, rather than the exception, Weiss decides to indulge in sorcery most foul, stolen ideas, and human ingenuity to survive.

Given the choice between a mad slaver and a mad sage, however, there is no avoiding an inevitable tide of ponies escaping the conquered Crystal Empire to bask in the warmth of his well-stoked hate. Something which draws attention, enemies, and most worryingly, the rivalry of his "peers".
