Trotcon, July 15-17

I expect to give a talk on the structure of fimfiction at Trotcon this weekend, assuming I finish it in time. It's basically what I posted in Author clusters question.

I might not have enough material to fill up the timeslot. In which case I'll fill it up by relating the clusters to responses on the fimfiction survey I posted--this is scandalous--almost 6 years ago, which about 1500 people very kindly filled out, after which I just sat on the results because I wanted to submit an article based on it to an academic journal before blogging about it.

One of the reasons for the poll was to check whether the different groups of readers that I found by running k-means clustering on the fimfiction follower graph were "really" groups, by testing whether the attitudes towards fanfiction of the different groups were significantly different. (They were.) I identified 6 clusters as literary (defined, naturally, as "the cluster with me in it"), romance, fluff, clop, comic adventure, and SF&F. Readers of literary and romance fim-fiction mostly saw fan-fiction as art; readers of fluff, clop, and SF&F mostly saw it as fun. Also, cloppers voted 2:1 for Trump, while the readers of my author-cluster voted for Clinton 4:1, as did readers in the Romance cluster.

Woooooo will be there! And maybe be looking for a mane hotel bed to lie down in (not to sleep, just to lie down in for an hour here or there due to disability). I should probably post about that, because if I don't have a space to leave a plush or a bag it will limit what I can bring to the con.

You could, yes. I have used such information for good before (i.e., what to read, what to avoid, etc.)

But I'd rather use it for evil. I just don't know how yet.

Now I'm curious about fimfiction.net users and user activity after the 2015/2016 date of your study. And in light of the observation that very few users who joined in the last few years have 1000 followers or more...about those people too!
