So. It recently came to my attention that the Greek pantheon did in fact have a goddess of friendship. Philotes represented both platonic and sexual bonds, but it is neat to note that Twilight's domain has some precedent. Philotes also asked her followers to abstain from animal sacrifice, horse or otherwise.
Of course, the really funny thing is her parentage. Philotes happens to be a daughter of Nyx. I have to wonder if Pen Stroke knew. 
And don't forget that Poseidon is the god of horses.
TBH if Nyx isn't your mother, grandmother, or great grandmother in at least one version of the myths, can you really call yourself a Greek god? She gets around.

Well, Past Sins was written pre-Twilicorn, so 'Princess of Friendship' hadn't been coined yet, but friendship was supposed to be Twilight's whole schtick from the beginning, so... *shrug*
(Nyx is also the straight up personification of Night, so it's an obvious choice for a name.)

In the version Wikipedia cites, Erebus and Nyx literally invented sexual reproduction by way of being roughly tied for the second thing to exist.

So by all rights him and Philotes probably got along well. Of course, being Greek Gods, I'd be very surprised if that was actually true. Hades was probably the only Greek God I ever learned of that didn't try to screw you over on principle.

you made me go on another obscure greek god bynge on wikipedia again, I spent a hour looking up children of nyx and gaia.
Soo... would that mean Enyaliu-d'err, I mean Discord and Twilight are related somehow? As a kind of cosmic uncle and niece? Neat idea. I mean, I guess that would Twilight the aunt and Discord the annoying nephew, no?
I should have tied this into There Goes the Neighborhood. Cool.

I know there's at least a 90% chance that Plato was sleeping with several of his students, but that doesn't change what people use "platonic" to mean. (I'm not condoning the behavior, just pointing out that it was common in ancient Athens)
