New Story: Night Moves · 10:10pm Apr 5th, 2021
It's another one of them stories where I hear a song on the radio and then just have to write a story to capture that feel. This time, it's Bob Seger's "Night Moves", hence the title.
Bob Seger has always been one of my favorite musicians. There's just something so sweetly melancholy about many of his songs; Roll Me Away and Against the Wind are another two favorites of mine. They speak of times long gone, missed opportunities, a glimmer of maybe a second chance on tomorrow's horizon. They speak of simpler times, less confusing times, sweet summer nights that live on only in our memories.
That was the feeling I tried to capture in Night Moves. The song isn't just about two teenagers fooling around and having sex; it's an ode to our simpler teenage years, when we were living our best and carefree lives, only to realize too late that impending adulthood was about to take them away from us. It's in part a story about when you realize that you don't want to grow up anymore, and that you wish you had just a little bit more time to be a kid without the responsibilities of the world on your shoulders. At least, that's how I interpreted it, and I wove that interpretation into the story.
It's not a happy story, but it's not a sad story either. Like the source material, it's a mix of both, and it leaves you with a certain subdued feeling when it's all over with. I hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Seems like Still the Same (my personal favorite Seger song) might make good fic material too.
