I write, I draw, and both tend to be a bit grimdark. Hopefully writing ponies will mitigate that somewhat.

Hey Rusty, What Have You Been Up To?

Well, for one thing, I've been spending a large amount of time working on THIS with the great Wanderer D. It's a collaboration we've had in the works for a while now, and it's really cool to see part one of it up. I know it's not

    So about them updates...

No, I'm not dead, and neither is Backwards Through the Mirror. However, some very troubling things have happened of late, and I've had little time or energy to work on writing.

    Graduated!

As of May 25th, 2013, I have officially graduated with my BA: Art, Concentration in Studio Practice, Preparation for Teaching. It's been seven years in the making, and a great deal has altered in my life since I first arrived on my campus. I met my first boyfriend there, my first girlfriend, established an unsavory reputation and then rose above it. I met the girl I'm going to marry there, and

    Guess who's a silly pony.

    I am!

So you know that next chapter of BTtM I kept promising? Well, I went and convinced myself I'd posted it five days ago, and I was all bummed that no one was commenting. Then I went and looked at my page, to poke at it and check for any comments I may have missed, or stray up-votes... And lo and behold, I went and forgot to post the silly thing!

    So I just noticed...

The bulk of the referrals for BTtM (thank you whoever started using that acronym), come from facebook, but I've got no idea why. I don't have a facebook page, so it's next to impossible for me to figure out which page they came from, but like over 100 of them are from some facebook page.

Writer's block, and curiosity. · 1:34am Nov 27th, 2012

So I've been staring at the next chapter of Backwards Through the Mirror, willing it to be done. So far, it hasn't worked, so things are a little delayed on that end. I do have another White Wolf crossover in the works, with Mage, and a vague idea for a continuation of All Jokes Aside, so I may work on those for a while, until my writer's block clears up.

I'm also thinking of starting up an ask blog to keep me drawing, which should be Ask Dame Twilight. For if anyone had any pressing questions for her, and to keep myself motivated to write and draw.

Until then, I had a bit of a question for those who read this and write: What do you listen to while writing? I know it's kind of a classic question, but when I realized that I'd set almost every scene in Backwards Through the Mirror to music mentally I got curious and the question never let me alone.

Personally, I listen to everything, but mainly metal, classic rock (mainly Queen) and dance for most of my writing.

I listen to a lot of symphonic metal and electroswing myself. Anything with energy, that sets a nice even beat to it with soft vocals.

I mostly just use it to block out other external noises and let my mind wander as I write.

Dame Twilight... are you on iBrony? :rainbowhuh:

When I write, I usually find ambient music on YouTube. It's less distracting for me, and still provides musical relief.

i don't write much, but when i do anything where i can spare the attention i listen to metal mostly. power metal to be precise.

amaranthe
avantasia and edguy (not so much of these any more)
dragonforce
hammerfall
in flames
machinae supremacy
sabaton
there are others, but those are the ones i have saved as files.

Here's a thought: Have you considered bridging the settings? Is there any reason you can't have a changeling Twilight as well as a mage AJ? The different creatures of the night all seem to get on like a house on fire in nWoD, at least.

As for music:
Electronica or Shostakovich+Dvorak.

Typically, when I'm writing something important, I listen to classical music. I've never really done any fanfic writing, but I have RP'd before, which is kind of like fanfic writing (except all the other characters are alive and have minds of their own...). Usually, I listen to any kind of music that sets the mood and helps me visualize the scene better.

Need something for action? There's music for that.
Need something ambient for something like, say, a walk in the woods? There's music for that.
Maybe something for an emotional or heartwarming scene?
Something kind of suspenseful?
Something crushingly sad?
Or maybe something completely zany and out of the blue?

Anything I can find to link my thoughts together and paint the picture in my mind, That's what I listen to.

YouTube is your friend. :rainbowkiss:

The rare times I try to write something, that isn't a report, I listen to any music that is on my iTunes.
Which tends to not have a genre, but I'd guess it's a mixture of rock, dubstep, and electronic with the rare country thrown-in.

Well I might not be a writer but I do listen to music while I draw. I usually start drawing listening to a certain song and then listening to music of the same tone. When I was drawing my " twilight the changeling queen" pic for Wanderer D, I started with this:

When I started drawing "reflection" for SS&E, I listened to this:

When I started drawing "Changeling twi" for you, I listened to dragonforce. Wow that was a long time ago. Believe it or not but "backwards through the mirror" actually got me to start drawing. It just gave me so many ideas. Maybe ill get back to them one of these days.
(my personal fav is world on fire)
