I write, I draw, and both tend to be a bit grimdark. Hopefully writing ponies will mitigate that somewhat.

    So about them updates...

No, I'm not dead, and neither is Backwards Through the Mirror. However, some very troubling things have happened of late, and I've had little time or energy to work on writing.

    Graduated!

As of May 25th, 2013, I have officially graduated with my BA: Art, Concentration in Studio Practice, Preparation for Teaching. It's been seven years in the making, and a great deal has altered in my life since I first arrived on my campus. I met my first boyfriend there, my first girlfriend, established an unsavory reputation and then rose above it. I met the girl I'm going to marry there, and

    Guess who's a silly pony.

    I am!

So you know that next chapter of BTtM I kept promising? Well, I went and convinced myself I'd posted it five days ago, and I was all bummed that no one was commenting. Then I went and looked at my page, to poke at it and check for any comments I may have missed, or stray up-votes... And lo and behold, I went and forgot to post the silly thing!

    So I just noticed...

The bulk of the referrals for BTtM (thank you whoever started using that acronym), come from facebook, but I've got no idea why. I don't have a facebook page, so it's next to impossible for me to figure out which page they came from, but like over 100 of them are from some facebook page.

Hey Rusty, What Have You Been Up To? · 10:09am May 3rd, 2014

Well, for one thing, I've been spending a large amount of time working on THIS with the great Wanderer D. It's a collaboration we've had in the works for a while now, and it's really cool to see part one of it up. I know it's not an update, but it's pretty close since the events in the story are canon to the BTtM universe, taking place in the large chunk of time where the castle was being worked on.

Now, as to the updates for BTtM directly, most of that time has been going into looking for a job. To say it's slim pickings is to put it lightly, especially with an art degree and no experience. I confess, I sank into a slump of depression for over three months and didn't work on any projects at all, just worked on finding a job, to no avail. Now, however (partially because of the collaboration I was involved in) I've sort of gotten back into the rhythm of writing, and I might actually get a job editing (of all things). So, given that, I should be working on updates more soonishly.

ALSO, I went to BABScon most recently, and had the joy of meeting and getting a shirt signed by Tara Strong. I also met Pen Stroke in line, by chance, and I completely refrained (I think) from mentioning that Past Sins (which he was holding a hardcover of) was one of the stories that started me writing pony fan-fiction. I heard there was a lot of drama around BABScon, but honestly I had a wonderful time and none of it managed to find me, not even in the room parties with open bars. It really helped me reconnect with the community, which was something I was really lacking, living as far out from civilization (relatively speaking) as I do. Sadly, I didn't get much time to draw or write, as the whole con was pretty crammed together, timing wise, but I really enjoyed myself all the same.

But now that I'm back, I'm getting back into the swing of updates, working on stuff, gettin' applications out, and other such things. Definitely check out the collaboration, Wanderer D and I spent a lot of time on it, along with all the editors and proofreaders that helped keep things beautifully consistent.

Oh yeah, side-note: I'm actually in the footage of the Read it and Weep panel from BABScon, at the 1:17:03 mark, but the whole thing's really cool and a lot of fun. And yes, as you may have guessed from my wobbling I might have been drinking a bit, and the sound quality is kind of poor due to the chest-vibrating bass rumbling from the dance across the hall.

Nice to hear you're getting back into the swing of things, and I feel your pain trying to find a job. It feels impossible at the moment.

Hey, so you're the guy who wrote Backwards Through the Mirror? This is a bit weird, given I've only read the chapter in Chronicles by Wanderer D, but I really enjoyed it. I found the world it was set in very intriguing. There was a real sense of stuff going on beyond the main plot and I can understand why D picked it out.

Backwards Through the Mirror has definitely earned a place on my read later list (which I try to keep under 10 items). I can't guarantee I'll have the time to read it any time soon but I certainly want to have a look.

Well, maybe it's not so weird, if you were working with Wanderer D. I mean, that makes the chapter yours as well? So to summarise: go you.

PS: Backwards is marked as a crossover. Do you mind if I as what it's a crossover with? It doesn't seem to say in the description.

White Wolf's Changeling: The Lost, one of my all-time favorite gaming systems.

I'm glad you're interested in the story though, and I really hope you like it! The system's pretty cool too, with much of the same sort of fluff. Very dark and mysterious, with questions of sanity and perspective, dreams meshing with reality and stories mixing with destiny. I'd definitely recommend checking it out. :pinkiehappy:

I should have known, it has a very World of Darkness feel now that you mention it. I'm afraid I've only played one short game in the World of Darkness universe. I have played a few Exhaled games, though, and read a lot more of that setting. I particularly loved the way the set up the heavenly bureaucracy.

Fun fact: I almost did an Exalted story instead of Changeling: The Lost, but ponies meshed less well with the Exalted setting I felt, and the story's now just notes in my half-finished story folder. Sad, but true, however I might revisit it later with a fresh perspective. It's just that the themes in Exalted of being chosen by a god to become an avatar for change, while appropriate for Twilight, would be hard to apply elsewhere.

Admittedly, the thought of Pinkie as a Eclipse caste amuses me, almost as much as Discord as a Primordial. :pinkiehappy:

Good to know you are still alive.

Hope the job situation improves.

Fuck!

Now I have to get off my ass... or perhaps, get on my ass, and read the entirety of The Sweetie Chronicles, so that I get a bit more Backwards Through the Mirror in my system.

I swear, I'd read almost anything with Changeling: The Lost in it... I found the system because of this story, and I can honestly say I don't think any of the several dozen characters for various gaming systems I've made since then has been unaffected by the inspiration I received from it. In terms of flavor it's probably the most amazing system I've ever seen.

Now if only any of my friends would play it! :raritydespair:

Yay! Your not dead!

This post is from over a year ago so you are talking about BABSCon 2014, wonder if you considered attending BABSCon 2015?
