Location Ideas For a New Story · 5:57pm Oct 14th, 2020
I'm currently in the brainstorming phase for an idea I had a while back, which is a story about the "Elements of Chaos". Right now, I am working on figuring out six unique locations that each element will be located in, and would like to open up the opportunity for anybody who wants to help! For the most part, I want to only slightly incorporate existing locations, so as to not box myself in too much. For example, a few ideas I have currently are:
- Deep within crystal caves in the mountains surrounding the Crystal Empire
- In a similar vein, deep within the volcano in the Dragonlands
- Hidden ruins within the Everfree Forest
And so forth. Basically...if you've ever played a Paper Mario game, it's gonna be like that in the sense of going from place to place, collecting these elements of chaos along the way. I will be doing 6 in total, to match the elements of harmony, so ideally they should all be unique and distinct from one another to make reading (and writing) the story more fresh and enjoyable. Any input or questions about the idea in general is also welcome.
Here's a nice map I've been staring at for inspiration:
Might I suggest you check out the story "Lost Cities" by Cold in Gardez, for further inspiration. Using nothing but straight narrative he paints captivating and chilling images of Civilizations that are at absolute best legends or myths in Equestria and at worst forgotten all together.

I will check it out, thank you. I'll be relying a lot on setting description in this story so that'll be a good source of inspiration for me. I want to be careful about getting too deep into lore territory though, as that's what tends to kill most of my more ambitious stories.

Glad to be of assistance.
and I understand as when I have attempted writing I sometimes find myself over thinking things, be it lore, family histories, character descriptions, etc. This is, incidentally, why I don't play D&D.
Neat 😋🤗
