You know, I may inadvertently done something clever again. I mean, I was stunned when I was writing Stars, finally came up with a way for the ponies to win, and went back over the chapters I'd already written and realised I'd given them all the clues and Chekov's Arsenal they needed, but this time...

    Shoo Be Doo

OK - given that, somewhat to my annoyance, seaponies will be appearing in MLP:FiM books in the next few months, I've had to start The Shadow Over Hinnysmouth before canon invalidates my plot. But I need good names for various ponies employed in the hospitality industry, and for the various Hinnysmouth hybrids. Any suggestions? Puns always welcome.

"The Elements of Harmony are not the only elements. Consider the alchemical quartet - Earth, Air, Fire, Water. The symbolism is obvious, but with it the imperfection. The Earth Pony race, strong and durable. The Pegasi, of course. And the Unicorns in whom the spark of magic is kindled to a blaze. Robustus, Pegasus, Monoceras. What, then, of Hippocampus?"

One of the themes I'm working into The Shadow over Hinnysmouth is memory (playing with the symbolism of water). Hinnysmouth features seaponies, who for obvious reasons I've also described as Hippocampi. And I've just remembered that the Hippocampus is that part of the brain that consolidates information from short-term memory to long-term memory.

Sometimes I amaze myself. Usually because I've done some utterly boneheaded, but this time because I've accidentally done something intelligent.
